Plex doesn't care about its users

I’d be very surprised if any smart tvs don’t have an HDMI-ARC channel that works with an applicable receiver or soundbar.

And if you are such a tech guy you should already know all about that and the upcoming HDMI 2.1 features such as E-ARC.

But even so, current ARC will not pass HD audio such truehd/atmos/dts-hd, and yes shield is the best plex client for that kind of content until new TV’s and receivers are out with E-ARC support.

So like everyone else, you will just have to live with whichever interface you choose and that interfaces limitations/featureset.

Punctuation is your friend. Use it.

Oh I do I already have an HDMI 2.1 cable

My HDMI cable handles 48 megabits per second I’m already getting ready HDMI 2.1

And eArc wont work on toslink either it’s not supported in toslink the new earc

1- perhaps you do have an hdmi 2.1 cable, but there is no hdmi 2.1 TV’s or receivers yet. A cable by itself does not help you.

2- Not sure how that has anything to do with plex, oh and no you are not getting hdmi 2.1.

3- Duh? I never said it did.

4- You obviously are on a different planet from the rest of us, so I’ll avoid further comment.

The room is spinning…

@manslayerms, Dude, seriously, use commas and periods more often. It’s hard to read your posts if you do not punctuate. It’s like if someone you were having conversation with spoke without taking a breath or pausing. It makes it hard to follow what you’re saying.

All I’m saying, is that using a smart TV as your main entertainment is not what high-end users want to do. That’s what I’m trying to say. Also people with high-end equipment don’t like to use soundbars either and LG’s best TV that cost $15,000 you have to use a sound bar just to use it and all the high-end enthusiast are pissed. All I’m saying is people that and Plex if they think that it’s important to get the TV apps updated first they’re mistaken.the people that are high-end users are Kodi using smart TVs they’re either going to be using Apple TVs ,Nvidia shield ,or roku’s. TV apps always are terrible and slow.

currently the best and easiest ‘high-end’ solution for plex and for 4k/hdr is:

nvidia shield < hdmi > av receiver with atmos/4k/hdr < hdmi-arc > 4k/hdr tv

no optical needed.
no smart tv plex app needed.
no hdmi 2.1 needed.

Pretty much anything else is currently a waste of time and/or money.

Apparently AppleTV 4K is now worth it with HEVC and the new player and Dolby Vision support. I’d still much rather keep my Shields though.

Yea maybe.

does it direct play mkv?
or subtitles?
or pass through hd audio/atmos/dts-hd ?

dolby vision is irrelevant for plex, since there are currently no available way to rip or play back dolby vision content.

DV will only work through various authorized streaming services or perhaps DRM apple media, not any regular local media.

Answered as far as I know, I don’t use AppleTV.
