Plex doesn't play some files

Server Version#: 1.20.5.3600
Player: Samsung QLED TV, Version#: 5.4.2; Platform Version: 4

Some videos don’t get played, Plex keeps buffering for some time, then it quits with the message: “An unexpected error has occurred”.

Here is an output of ffprobe for one of the files: file_info.txt (8.2 KB) and the (File removed).

The server runs Windows 10 Pro N on Intel Core i5-2500K CPU

Some media codec looks like have been retired… there are many posts about similar issues. For example older AVIs or media encode with older DIVX codecs don’t play… and the AV1 container has never been supported in Plex… yet.

Other issues… your server maybe trying to encode something that it needs to transcode because of the audio. There is a trick using RAM disk to help eek out a little more performance that may aid.

I’ve requested the error message be more informative to help aid with diagnosing the issues when it comes up.

good luck.

Hello there,

as you can see, the file I’ve mentioned in the first posting was using hevc codec, which is officially supported according to https://support.plex.tv/articles/203810286-what-media-formats-are-supported/

Here is another file using h264 codec, containing only a single video stream:

    Stream #0:0(eng): Video: h264 (High), yuv420p(progressive), 3840x1396, SAR 1:1 DAR 960:349, 25 fps, 25 tbr, 1k tbn, 50 tbc (default)
    Metadata:
      title : ***
      BPS-eng : 30318548

It cannot be played by Plex Tizen App as well. Here are the logs again: (File removed)

It doesn’t matter if I use RAM disc, enable or disable direct play/stream.
