Server Version#: Version 4.43.4
Player Version#: 5.6.1 Vizio TV and Desktop Windows Client
Internet just went down, plex player app in TV and player client on Windows machine wants to contact plex.tv in order to even start or do anything unless there is internet connection.
MS Windows does this too so sometimes it says there is no internet because it contacts it’s server and if it’s down it thinks there is no internet, you are similar to it in this way.
Claim is that Plex server runs on LAN but it doesn’t so it’s clearly a bug, it needs to be ran on local network and serve my local files, I can get to the plex from the windows client and see my files because the browser was already opened and the url was very long,
but going to http://10.0.0.167:32400/web/index.html doesn’t work because it wants to contact plex.tv in same browser or another browser.
It’s actually fine once I got in to the player from the browser that had the url in history and some online icons disappeared which is fine, I can still play my offline stuff. But what is unacceptable is a LAN player that is dependent on internet connection to even start the app.
Solution: Please remove the prerequisite of initial checking for the internet connection in order to start the APP and please just start my app, if you want you can put a notification somewhere that says you are offline and only offline content is available, somewhere out of the way so it doesn’t bother people, and also don’t periodically check for it and close the app, when the internet comes back on either remove LAN only notification or send another saying you are now online.
Yes this is a bug. I had to put my T Mobile phone on the window to get two bars of LTE to contact my ISP via Facebook messenger because it’s Christmass and they turned their phones off to tell them to reboot the router so I can watch some offline plex
