With PlexPass you can sync your tv shows, but for some reason you can’t sync subs - that makes it unusable for big amount of people!
Simply Plex app doesn’t download local subs, only movie files!
My sub is on the list but it can’t be played when is synced because PLEX DIDN’T DOWNLOAD it to directory folder for movie file!
It make my entire 150 TVshows unusable.
I thought this is bug or something only in my case, but community on Plex subreddit confirms that this is world wide problem.
I think this is only oversight that must be repaired!
Please fix it quickly, I love Plex and my entire library, but without subs this is unusable!
You need to preselect the sub you want prior to syncing, and then it’ll be burnt in.
Why I have to transcode video?
It will take really long time to sync with that solution.
Why couldn’t I simply download this without encoding?
For example when you bundle subs in mkv file it is working flawlessly, but it is impossible to add subs to every episode.
I’ve also noticed that Plex doesn’t download subtitle files with movie files and it was big a dissappointment when it turns out that I can’t watch my favourite series and fully understand everything just because desktop app didn’t download one small file.
This issue is pretty frustrating, it would be great if downloading subs work.
FYI:
you could always use Bazarr, it has ffsubsync. Don’t forget to donate to the devs if you use it ! Works wonders
It was so promising!
But no, it is still not working.
I checked on player version: 1.18.0.1392-cf94f6a1
Server Version: 1.20.1.3252 [FreeNAS]
Still Plex Player doesn’t download sub files from server.
It seems to me that Bazarr is for downloading subs online, but I have sub files so it is not a problem.
Same think with ffsubsync, it is good when you have your subs out off sync. My problem is that PlexPlayer don’t download sub files from my PMS, not sub base or something.
I don’t know well Bazarr and ffsubsync, how they can help to solve this problem?
Plex for Windows 1.18.0.1392, Win10 Pro
PMS 1.20.1.3252, Synology DS918+
FWIW, working for me. Just tested with two movies. Plex for Windows downloaded the movies and all external subtitles. It does not matter if I have the external subtitle file selected on the movie pre-play screen.
Not sure if it matters, but I’ve video quality = original in Settings -> Plex for Windows -> Downloads. I’ve not tried with other quality settings.
That is great!
Now I only have to get to know what with my setup is not correct.
I checked, and I have everything set to original quality.
What type of subs do you have? ASS or SRT?
Can you show how you organize your files?
Mine looks like that:
Here’s the two I tested:
/Movies
/12 Strong (2018)
/12 Strong (2018).mkv
/12 Strong (2018).eng.srt
/Airplane (1980)
/Airplane (1980).mkv
/Airplane (1980).eng.srt
/Airplane (1980).[trivia].eng.srt
Screenshot from Plex for Windows
Found a TV show episode with external SRT subtitles. The subtitles downloaded OK.
/TV Shows
/Star Trek Discovery
/Season 01
/Star Trek Discovery - s01e04 - The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry.mkv
/Star Trek Discovery - s01e04 - The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry.eng.srt
It is working with SRT
Thank you all guys!!!
