Plex downloading wrong version of PMS (public vs. beta)

My plex server says its “logged in as …” and should have plex-pass features enabled.

But the file offered on update ist the “public” version, not the “beta” it is set to. It does so for about 6-8 weeks. I also noticed, that i can´t play trailers or extras anymore.

So it feels, as if my server isn´t recorgnized as logged in for updates or not having the plex-pass features enabled. Both, the correct beta-update file and trailers/extras check for plex-pass features?

If you’re referring to the download link offered from within Plex Web as Part of the update notification:
This will use Settings > [Server Name] > General > Server Update Channel … so if it’s set to public, Plex will only offer to download public releases.

If you’re experiencing this on the official download page:
Make sure to enable the Plex Pass Downloads toggle.

“If you’re referring to the download link offered from within Plex Web as Part of the update notification:
This will use Settings > [Server Name] > General > Server Update Channel … so if it’s set to public, Plex will only offer to download public releases.”

Thats what i meant, and its set to the beta channel, but still offers the public version for a few weeks now.

Sounds like you have a different problem and should open a new thread.

This one was specifically about the download link being obfuscated, but something different is happening on your system.

My Server is signed in and I have a Plex-Pass.

What version am I supposed to get, when I click “Please install manually”?
In the past, it was the current beta-version.

It should – and does so for me (just downloaded the new beta for 1.27.0.5849). I used the download links offered in Settings > [Server Name] > General (as per your screenshot) and the Activities section to the same result.

What URL do you specifically get offered? (excluding the &X-Plex-Token=..... section)

My server is installed on Ubuntu, so this is the lookup URL I got:

https://plex.tv/downloads/latest/5?channel=8&build=linux-x86_64&distro=debian&X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

IIRC, the channel=8 part implies it’s looking for a beta version.

Hi! Thanks for testing.

link: https://plex.tv/downloads/latest/5?channel=8&build=linux-x86_64&distro=debian&X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
file: plexmediaserver_1.26.2.5797-5bd057d2b_amd64.deb

Btw. are you logged in to your server as user?

I access it via http://192.168.1.3:32400/web/index.html and I´m not logged in as user.
As soon as I´m logged in, it offers the current beta 1.27.0.5849 (but that must have changed a while ago, I never used to log in to my local server).

The other strange thing is, i can´t play trailers/extras anymore. That problem occured about the same time. It feels, as if my plex-server isn´t logged in or as if it isn´t granted the benefits of a plex-pass anymore.

The beta / preview versions are tied to your Plex Pass (hence the token in the lookup URL). If you’re not logged in, Plex will not be able to authenticate you and therefore won’t give you the beta version.

Was this tied to the server being signed-in before, not the user? Something must have changed.

I’m not aware of any changes. However I had my server signed in all the time (e.g. to benefit from the server-related Plex Pass features)… so I cannot be 100% sure.

There’s a difference in behavior when you click the link normally, vs. when you right-click to copy the link.

This has changed somewhat recently.
