Plex Downloads (Windows Player) - Stuck and need to clear

Scenario
All systems are using current plex pass versions of servers/clients.

2 Plex Servers, One local network, one remote. Local Network is Docker on Linux; Remote is Synology. Client is Windows native client - downloading from Synology server.

Downloads tab just shows spinning circle, never comes out of that or shows downloads.
If I go to a file and choose download, nothing happens. (for either single download or series downloads)

I am wanting to clear out the download list on the client if that is possible so that it can reset and start working again.

Have cleared cache, metadata, and actual downloaded files.

Thank You

This tells us precisely nothing. You should always include the actual device and version numbers to avoid any confusion, as there are many possibilities here.

Just to be clear, a remote server is one that is NOT in your home. If the device is in your home then it is Local NOT Remote.

Please let us know what you mean here, thanks.

Is the Docker container installed on the NAS or do you have another Linux machine running Docker?

Plex does not allow downloading of series unless you select each of the episodes individually, which can add up to a lot of downloads depending on the number of episodes in the series.

Go to the device where you initiated the downloads and try to clear the downloads on that device.

You can also try running PlexDBRepair - ChuckPa on your Plex Server machine/s. Follow the instructions given on the Github page.

I don’t know if that will help with your issue or not, but it certainly could not hurt.

If that fails, then try uninstalling the Windows client and then make sure you remove all remaining files and registry entries before rebooting the PC and reinstalling the client.

You can use something like Revo Uninstaller to make that process a little easier.

Home Network
-Server A- Running plex-pass docker version on Linux host, Host is running Ubuntu
Linux version 5.15.0-112-generic (buildd@lcy02-amd64-051) (gcc (Ubuntu 11.4.0-1ubuntu1~22.04) 11.4.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu) 2.38) #122-Ubuntu SMP Thu May 23 07:48:21 UTC 2024
Host is a AMD Threadripper system.

Status: Image is up to date for plexinc/pms-docker:plexpass
docker.io/plexinc/pms-docker:plexpass

-Server B- Running on remote host not on my local LAN, do not have access to actual version info; Synology Host;

-Client - Windows, Running on Windows 11, client version 1.105.1.257-3bc35ab9
Client Windows is 32G, Intel i7 CPU

Downloads used to work just fine, have been working fine for years. Around 1 month ago, they stopped working. Downloading from Server B (remote) to Windows Client.

On windows client, cleared out files located in:

C:\users.…\Plex\cache
C:\users.…\Plex\Plex Media Server\cache
C:\users.…\Plex\Plex Media Server\sync

I can navigate to remote host in the Windows Client, browse media with no issues. Can initiate play for media with no issues. If I navigate to the downloads option on the Windows Client, I get a wait cursor (circle) that never goes away, even after 24 hours on the screen. The client is not hung, I can click on other menu options and it will switch to that menu. Only the download menu appears to be borked.

The download menu item on the left side of the screen also shows a triangle with a ! in it, but hovering over it does not give any information.

Fully deleting Client app, deleting folders/reg entries and re-installed fixed it.

Thank You

Thanks for providing that information, keep that in mind next time you ask for help, it’s often important information for those trying to help with your issues.

I am glad you got things sorted out and that all is working for you again.

Happy Plexing!
