Plex downscaling all media to 480p [solved]

Server Version#: 4.66.1
Player Version#:5.29.1

Hi all, the strangest thing started happening with my plex playing through a samsung tv; been using it for weeks, no problems at all, and then suddenly last night it started downsampling all media to 480p regardless of original quality. I’ve been through all the settings on the sever and tv app without any luck. No changes to home network. Tried uninstalling server and deleting local app data, uninstalling tv app, reinstalling both, but settings were retained and issue persisted.

I’ve included my settings below, but can anyone advise on how to completely reset settings back to default, or what the problem may be?

[UPDATE]: I’m such a goose - my home network somehow changed over to public on the server… switched it back to private and working as well as it ever did. Hope this helps someone else with the same problem before they go through all the faff I did xD

Can you c

What information is showing in the “now playing” tile for that playback on the Plex server dashboard? I’m particularly interested if the stream is considered local, remote or indirect.

If your network is organized in different subnets, this could cause the communication between your client and server to be considered remote – for which you have configured a bitrate/quality restriction.
If the remote access configuration isn’t properly done or has issues this can cause the connection to be considered indirect – which has an even tighter bitrate limit (1 Mbps for regular users; 2 Mbps for Plex Pass members).

The Plex Web quality settings won’t impact playback on the Samsung TV. At max the bandwidth limitations applied in the remote access configuration will have an impact (if the stream is considered remote).

Thanks mate - found the issue and updated above!
