Plex DVR Closed Captioning Request

It should be possible to extract and display closed captioning recorded in the .ts files from plex DVR. I was able to frame accurate cut the .ts files with VideoReDo, and still extract subtitles with CCExtractor. After this is done Plex can display Closed Captioning, but I believe this functionality can easily be integrated. It works on both trimmed and untrimmed videos.

I was just thinking of Plex as a solution for my elderly parents once Windows 7 - and therefore Windows Media Center, which they absolutely love - goes off security patches in 2020.

Plex, they absolutely require closed captioning in order to be able to watch their TV shows; their hearing isn’t that good.

Also, in this new Discourse forum software, I can’t seem to find out how to vote for @tdanielspa’s post here! edit: oh there it is. Top left corner, derp.

It should also be possible to use CCextractor to display live Closed Captioning if it is integrated into Plex. It can process captions via UTP, if it’s not able to process them otherwise. It should be an easy feature to integrate as the captions are already in the media files Plex creates, they’re just not currently being used.

Exactly; we know they’re in the broadcast file since WMC can process them, and from what I’ve read of Plex DVR (i’ve not used it myself, just thinking for my parents’ sake - that’s another lifetime membership there plex, if you can get this working!!!) the sub/caption files are THERE, they’re just not being used.

Well, plex you have 2 years until all the WMC users need a new option; I hope to holy heck you have it ready by then
