This fixed mine too. Deleted the 3 files named “tv.plex.providers.epg.onconnect*” then restarted plex server. The EPG downoload is still slow, (about 10% in 20 minutes) but at least it’s counting up, and not staying at 0%.
If it helps the devs; the hard drive I store my plex media player cache folder on has been failing for a while, and was recently backed up, replaced and restored.
So, the failing drive, and the replaced HD may have caused the issue. Just a data point to consider.
I am on the latest version of Plex Media Server on Mac - and I still am having to trash these files about once a week. Anybody know if this is on their radar to fix?
Same here with the latest version of Plex for Mac. My server shuts down from 2am-7am daily. Everyday when I login around lunch time the guide is refreshing and is at 0%. I have to shut plex down and start it back up to get it to stop. This has been going on for months now. My other Mac server doesn’t have this issue and it’s a clone of the one that is.
Yes both servers are off from 2am-7am. I have left the servers running 24/7 and I do notice the guide still stuck refreshing but it doesn’t happen daily.
That time frame would be when your server, the internet and the content servers are at their lowest utilization giving he most chance for success. During waking hours I imagine the TVDB is getting hit with a lot of queries and updates, bulk guide refresh may not get the priority it needs to avoid timeouts.
Thanks for the suggestion but I don’t think that will help as when I had them running 24/7 there was still issues with the guide refreshing and being stuck at 0%. When I shut down Plex and start it back up the guide will refresh in a few minutes without any issues regardless of what time it is during the day. It seems after a reboot it has issues with downloading the guide until the Plex app is restarted.
I went and deleted the files listed in this thread and I will see what happens tomorrow morning.
Still having the same issues after removing the Plug-in support files. It’s after a reboot where the guide hangs. Deleting those files helped until the next reboot.
Are you still having issues @SuperMatt? I ended up rebuilding the entire plex server (full reinstall of OSX on the Mac Mini) last night and am waiting for tonight reboot to see what happens. So far ever trick listed only seems to help until the next reboot.
I have been ok for a couple days since installing the newest version of PMS. I have taken to quitting PMS before shutting down my computer in case it was inelegantly forced to quit by the Mac’s shutdown.
EDIT: Of course I jinxed it. Today the server decided to revert to 0% initializing again! Oh well. At least the latest update lets me watch live TV on my Apple TV and iPhone again.
Bummer! Same here. Full re-install of OSX and Plex didn’t fix the issue. It’s stuck at 0% this morning. Reboot plex and it’s done with the guide data in a matter of 2-3 minutes.
This is still happening on two servers no matter what I do. What log files would be best to use and who can I send them too so that they can be analyzed in hopes to fix this issue?
I noticed that my guide stopped updating three days ago. I followed the above procedure mentioned in the post by deleting the epg files ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases but my guide will only refresh to 8%. I looked at the log and here are the errors.
I also noticed that the recording icons no longer show in the Live and DVR guide. The only way to see any recordings is clicking on recordings or the activity icon on the top right of the browser.
My issue is different as I’m just stuck at 0% and it’s always 'initializing". Even after a full re-install I’m still having the same issues if I have the server reboot nightly. Each morning I Have to log into the Mac Mini and restart the Plex Server manually to get the guide to refresh.
