Plex DVR Configuration- Refreshing EPG (0%)—Initializing

I’m trying to configure my computer with Plex DVR with silicondust HD HomeRun ATSC Digital TV Dual Tuner.
The channels seem to scan 49 channhels and then I get to the next screen where it says:
Refreshing EPG (0%)—Initializing
It stay here for a while and nothing happens

When I click on the Program Guide I get this:
The Program Guide is empty
Please verify your channel mappings and refresh the Program Guide
Any suggestions?

+1… exact same problem for me.

Same problem here!

me too!! After a refresh, it is the same.

Me too, I lost my program guide. Version 1.5.5.3634

Same exact problem here. Refresh does not help.
Version 1.5.5.3634

Same problem here. Upgraded to the most recent 1.6.1.3722, no change, still empty.

you might want to post logs, they can’t fix it if they don’t see the problem. like this

Running windows 10 version 1607 build 14393.1066 with Plex version 1.5.5.3634. The EPG will download the info but can not update the file.

" ERROR - Couldn’t rename file C:\Users\core\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases v.plex.providers.epg.onconnect-9de5568a-378d-4b70-ab8b-2593927f70d2-loading.db to C:\Users\core\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases v.plex.providers.epg.onconnect-9de5568a-378d-4b70-ab8b-2593927f70d2.db: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"

similar problem here. When I click on “refresh program guide” it actually progresses to 100% and shows that it has downloaded almost 3000 airings. Then goes to “optimizing guide” and finishes. However, when to go to look at the guide it still says “The Program Guide is empty”.

Plex Version 1.5.5.3634

UPDATE: I was looking through the logs and noticed an entry that a file was locked from writing:

Apr 29, 2017 20:18:46.618 [12500] ERROR - Couldn’t rename file C:\Users\ck\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases v.plex.providers.epg.onconnect-3656ff75-429c-40d6-ab23-1c2ab5a0407b-loading.db to C:\Users\ck\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases v.plex.providers.epg.onconnect-3656ff75-429c-40d6-ab23-1c2ab5a0407b.db: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

A simple windows reboot allowed that file to be written to. Not sure what caused this, but thought I would share the solution I found.

same here, but rebooted and still no guide

tried it again, and this time on reboot it worked

I’m getting the error below. I keep trying to refresh and it kept going up about 1% on every refresh, but now I’m stuck again at 12%:

same case for me

I have the same thing happening to me right now. I refresh the EPG but it never writes the file and my program guide is empty, which means none of my shows are being recorded. When I try to access the file manually it says “The action can’t be completed because the file is open in Plex Media Server”. Seems like it’s in a deadlock.

Have you rebooted the server? Another thread Plex Employee asked that we reboot and try EPG refresh after reboot. Worked for others on that thread including myself.

Same issue today as well. PMS on Mac mini running latest Plex Pass release.

All of a sudden today EPG is empty and no recordings made. Had to force a refresh again and it’s moving very slowly. This is the 3rd time this week that I’ve had to force an EPG refresh.

@jayz78 Have you rebooted the server? Another thread Plex Employee asked that we reboot and try EPG refresh after reboot. Worked for others on that thread including myself. Since reboot I have been retrieving EPG data each day. Just checked and have 14 days of data so it is still working for me.

I had a similar issue where the guide data expired today and no shows recorded. I checked the schedule and there was no guide data available. I attempted to refresh it but it failed. I rebooted and was still unsuccessful in removing the file lock.

My solution was:

  • Stop the Plex Update service (Services.msc)
  • Exit Plex from the tray icon
  • Move the tv.plex.providers.epg.onconnect-* files **from **the %LocalAppData%\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases\ folder **to **the desktop
  • Start Plex Update service (Services.msc)
  • Open Plex

The files were immediately rebuilt with no data. I performed a refresh of the EPG and it successfully updated the guide.

It appears that it was unable to write to the DB-WAL file during the optimization step of the EPG update. The file size of the original DB-WAL was 1.02 MB whereas the newly created one was the full download size of the EPG at 58 MB. I also noted that the original Data Base file was created during the last update to my Plex Server installation. It had been working between then (4/28/17) and today. It was the DB-WAL file access causing the issue.

I will continue to monitor the EPG to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

Hopefully Plex will address this.

Went to watch a show, and found my program guide was empty as of today. Looked in the logs, and there were errors about not being able to delete some tv* files because they were in use by another process. I exited Plex, deleted all the C:\Users\Mark\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases v* files, re-started Plex, and then the guide was able to re-build.

My guide was stuck on “Refreshing (0%) - Initializing” but I followed your instructions. Removing those DB files did the trick - the guide is rebuilding itself from scratch. Seems like maybe that file was corrupted?

This also fixed a similar problem for me.

On OS X these three files with names beginning “tv.plex.providers.epg.onconnect” are in ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases
