Plex DVR - Giving it Another Go

Thought I’d give Plex DVR a chance again after a year of Channels, especially as I have a lifetime pass & could do with saving the extra subs

Wife: I want to watch Eastenders but it’s not in Recordings library
Me: Oh, if it’s still recording, you’ll have to open it from the guide
Wife: Really, why isn’t in same place as all recordings, like Channels?
Me:…
Wife: How can I show just favourite channels in the guide?
Me: You can’t
Wife: ok, can I show just HD channels?
Me: No, you’ll need to scroll through dozens of channels to get to 101
Wife: I can’t see it
Me : Oh, it’s still recording but it’s now during the padding at the end, so you’ll have to wait a few minutes then look in the Recordings library again
Wife: …
*3 minutes later
Wife: Why doesn’t the video change when I fast forward?
Me: You’ll have to wait until the video previews have been generated
Wife:…
*Later that evening
Wife: I started watching something from the guide that was still recording but stopped then wanted to finish it. It was still recording but it asked if I wanted to watch from start or live but not resume
Me: You;ll have to watch from start & fast forward to where you left off:
Wife: …
Wife: Video isn’t changing as I fast forward so how do I know when to stop?
Me: …
Wife: Why does it take so much longer to change channels than Channels?
Me: …
Wife: I want to watch the Drama channel old Eastenders but they are lumped in with BBC4 & BBC1 episodes. There’s no episode descriptions or channel so how do I know which is which.

Funny. I recently tried the Plex DVR again as well after a 20 month break. I only lasted a week before I gave up as well. EPG not updating for 5 days. Unable to watch recordings in progress. Unable to schedule programs to record. Went back to my freebie DVR software (NextPVR) – far more reliable and doesn’t have any of the problems you mentioned.

By the way, I have my NextPVR record into a Plex library folder and I get the best of both worlds. I can watch in progress recordings in Plex – although it has one limitation – Plex thinks the program length is what it is when you start playing. So it will stop before you get to the end. So you need to occasionally stop restart so that Plex can see the current length. Honestly, it’s a small annoyance when compared to all the bugs/annoyances/stupidities in the Plex DVR.
