I’ll throw in another “vote” for this being an issue for me. I have Comcast cable coming in to an HDHR Prime. PMS is running on a 2017 iMac Intel Core i5, 40GB RAM, Radeon Pro 580 8GB … so I have the power.
I have noticed this only on 1hr long recordings. The issue starts about 1/2 way through the recording, and normally during/after a commercial break. I have not enabled commercial removal. This is extremely frustrating. Ruins a perfectly good night of catching up on shows.
Aside … I’ve used numerous computer/network-based OTA and DVR solutions over the years, both software (Plex, EyeTV) and hardware (Tablo). I’ve never seen this issue or had so many uncertainties about the quality and result of my recordings. Maybe the folks at Plex need to calm down on the “features” and focus on the core functionality a bit better.
Stop aggravating yourself’s. Just do what I did in my earlier post. If you had 1.9.7.4660 installed previously you still have it in the hidden directory of your user. Just get it and save it to your downloads. Delete plex and install the old one. Once installed set to never update automatically. Ever since I did that all my recordings are perfect. Obviously Plex has no idea where in the program they broke it and make no sense why they will not roll back to this version that works and leave the new one in beta.
I have that package (1.9.7.4660) the the filename indicates it’s a delta from 1.9.6.4429. does that mean I have to have 1.9.6.4429 installed before I copy the 4660 version over it?
As many report, this issue has been a devastating blow to the credibility of the dvr functionality within PMS in my family’s opinion. I personally am a true believer, but, putting that aside – I, much like many plex pass users I’m sure, write software during the day to pay the bills. There has been no PMS release in close to a month now. This leads me to believe you may need more sets of eyes. How can I most effectively donate my time, for free, to help look into this issue?
There is not any meaningful transparency in the development process (at least that I’m aware of). I understand you have IP to protect, but you also have a reputation to protect as well.
Seeing the same issue…at first i thought it was a problem with my antenna signal but doesn’t seem to be the case. No commercial skip and it seems to be worse the longer the episode is (some 2 hour shows from pbs always fail about and hour in at least)
Edit: Changing back to 1.9.7.4660…i have a full full day of recordings coming so i can give my results back…its less important as plex has already acknowledged the problem

I’d like to help in a meaningful way.
I usually don’t jump on the “fix core functionality before introducing new features” bandwagon, especially when those new features are from a different part of the development house, but a VR app?! We had been getting beta updates for PMS at least bi-weekly, then a major bug that renders nearly 50% of all recordings unwatchable (and permanently degraded) rears its head, and everything goes quiet. Pull people off these “sexy” features, and make things work as advertised.
What is really disgusting about this is that they are advertising this feature on Twitter as a reason to purchase a Plex Pass when they know full well that it does not work. That is just dishonest and scummy.
I need to get three Law & Order SUV recordings in tandem WITH 0 minutes padding before/after recording at DVR level settings. That’s more or less the scenario in which I saw the error crop up. Looking ahead at my recording schedule, I’ll know sometime this coming monday!
I’ve been recording the Breaking Bad marathon that AMC has been doing, and the first three episodes today have been good. That doesn’t save the first four seaons’ worth of episodes though…
Well, The Big Bang Theory, which is traditionally my worst luck with a show recorded fine this week. I could tell a few areas where it had minor ticks, but it recovered without skipping a beat. All other shows are flowing along fine as well.
I would definitely call that acceptable performance. I’m going to give it another week before calling this case solidly closed for me.

was this after you upgraded to the latest release or some other sorcery? I didn’t see anything in the last release that addressed this issue.
Yes, this was after having previously updated to the latest Plex Pass PMS release. They made some DVR functionality updates which was meant to solve the 100% complete recording issue.
So far, whatever adjustments they’ve done have been working for my garbled recording issue as well. Since that update I still have not had an issue with the subject of the original post.
I installed the latest version as today (Version 1.11.1.4768). I recorded How i met your Mother and The 70’s show for 2 tests and they worked great on Apple TV playback. Meaning the commercials were stripped and the audio was synced up. so far so good.
Plex strikes again! and by strike i mean fail. I think it comes down to Apple TV and Plex not playing well with each other, I can watch Young Sheldon and Big Bang Theory on my ATV and as soon as I hit the first commercial it does not sync up but i can pause the show and finish it on my Mac and it works just fine. arrrg
This is still a pretty big issue for me. It did well for a while, but for two weeks in a row now it’s butchered The Big Bang Theory pretty badly. Last week I thought it might have been the weather and a bad signal. Clear skies tonight.
I’ve had to roll back to ‘acquiring’ my content rather than recording it due to this issue. I can stream virtually any other file format through Plex, except their own recordings. Files always glitch out a few minutes in (around the first commercial break).
