Yeah, a sample and some logs would be super useful if you see it happen again
Hi Dave, I posted a sample last night. Unfortunately couldn’t get a prompt set of logs tied to it, but the set I posted earlier were immediately after the issue had occurred on another recording.
This is an issue I probably would have never found or at least not in a timely manner.
The way I rollout Plex Media Server updates is staggered. My main PMS is a Synology DS1815+ which is still running 1.9.x IIRC. It’s stable so I don’t typically experiment with newer versions. My secondary PMS is more experimental. It’s a Core i5 2500K based system running XPEnology / Synology DMS 6.0 and I install the latest PMS version on it as soon as I become aware of it. Bother the Synology 1815+ and the XPEnology NAS share the same SiliconDust HDHomeRun Prime network tuner so I default all DVR recording duties to the Synology 1815+. Offhour experimental recording test are done on the XPEnology but these are one off.
I’ve seen no issues with the test recordings or at least not of this nature. I have a recording with comskip enabled and a section of the movie (Star Trek reboot movie) had a missing section but no artifacts, audio sync issues or the like.
for what it’s worth, I just installed 1.11.0.4666 and today I did a recording of The King of Queens and it did a pretty good job of stripping out the commercials and not ruining the audio with syncing issues post commercial break. It has been pretty rough till now so I am going to leave the checkbox for removing commercials and see if it remains constant.
I have noticed the following issues after Version 1.9.7.4460…
The movie.ts file is corrupt with out of order frames.
Almost every other downloaded movie/show doesn’t get created do to a transcoder error, even thought I am just recording them and not doing any Commercial Skip or other post processing.
rolling back to Version 1.9.7.4460 fixes these issues.
I spoke yped too soon, after another test it seems that How I met your mother failed miserably being played on Apple TV. However, the recording is fine when I watch in on my Mac. This is annoying, someone just email when this whole disaster is fixed. Till then I will be recording commercials. Anyone use Channels for DVR?
Another sample from today. Logs generated. Recording was 4th in a series of half hour episodes back to back on the same channel. This one isn’t as bad as most, but representative of the glitch.
I’m not attributing the error to commercial skip as this happens with all recordings. It just started occurring at near the same time as the update.
Same issue here - seems to happen on back to back recordings on same channel. Playback on appleTV is unwatchable - 2-3 seconds of audio loops 3 or 4 times while video plays on with hiccups - gets out of sync really fast. iPad plays “OK” with video skips, and video trying to catch up with audio. Can also test on fire stick if it’s helpful…
I have a 3 tuner HDHR prime (cable card) and the server is a Mac Pro early 2009 with firmware hack to 5,1, CPU is 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 32 Gb RAM and 4 Tb volume for recordings (2x2TB JBOD RAID) - I’m thinking it’s not a hardware issue. I had no problems using comskip in a post processing script with previous versions. This blows.
Another incident for me with The Big Bang Theory. Posting logs. Sorry they’re not immediate, and I had a crash in between. The sample would be almost precisely like the first one I posted. I am unable to upload it at this time.
This is interesting, but I think unrelated. I haven’t had a smattering of fails like this in a LONG time. Oddly enough, a few test plays of these recordings seem to actually play fine. I didn’t even notice they’d errored.
I believe the problem I posted is the same as this. I found changing the playback method(playback at 20MB 1080p or any other) helps. So when is the next release due and is it a beta or production release?
I’m seeing the same issues. Super annoying. I’m also seriously considering moving to Channels dvr. Hate trying to bounce between platforms, but the unreliable nature of the DVR is driving my family crazy. There have been issues with DVR recordings since what? 1.6? That was months ago.
Fingers crossed the next release is the holy grail.
Not sure if this is the same issue, but I’ve had a problem recently where a show would record fine (no transcoder error and not getting stuck), but it would glitch out in the middle and make the audio skip throughout the rest of the program.
This is straight from the original, recorded MPEG2-TS file. It makes the show unwatchable after that point. This is on a channel with 98% signal strength and 100% signal/symbol quailty, but it seems like this has started after some of the “fixed 100% status bug” updates. It doesn’t happen on every recording, but it does seem to occur more on primetime shows. Although, that may just be a coincidence.
The only way I can tell that the glitch has occurred (without watching it) is that the post processed file with have an incorrect runtime. It’ll have a length of a few minutes longer than what the original recording was, even though the commercials were cut out.
Edit: nevermind, there were two Shark Tanks that recorded and showed the proper runtime but had the glitch about halfway through.
My old mythtv rig is still rock solid. Lack of player/frontends is a bummer. Every TV has raspberryPi frontend in my house, but it sure is nice to fire up Plex any tablet, game system etc to watch a show!
