Never mind, it seems updating the firmware fixed this temporarily, as I haven’t noticed skipping in anything recorded during the first week after updating the firmware. But I am now noticing the skipping slowly crawling back into all recordings. The issue is definitely in the recordings since I can play the ts file locally using VLC and I see the same skipping
I’ve tried a number of things to get this to stop and can’t find a solution. Is there any reason updating the firmware would temporarily stop then problem? It’s possible this was just a coincidence. Also, once I thought I had the issue fixed, I tripled the amount of content I’m recording, but the glitching occurs even on shows recorded alone
I don’t think this feature is usable as long as recordings contain glitches. Occasionally the glitching will happen during an important part of the show, which completely ruins the show
+1 on this. Anyone have any type of solution? HDHomeRun Quatro, 2017 16GB Shield with 2TB external HD USB 3.0. I can’t watch anything recorded with Plex - it’s TERRIBLE quality. The channels are crystal clear when watching live tv. I was ready to cut cable, but the lack of DV-R due to awful quality recordings is a real bummer. I liked the idea of doing it with Plex because I can get a lifetime subscription vs using HDHomeRun’s app and having to pay monthly… forever.
Just wanted to chime in that I’m having the same issue. Watching live all my channels come in great with no stuttering or signal issues. Trying to watch any of my recordings from Plex is just horrible. Tons of stuttering and audio out of sync. Running an HDHomeRun Quattro and Plex Server Version 1.12.1.4885
I set my Shield to never go to sleep and I bought a new USB hub powered externally because my external HDD is only powered through the USB port and I’m wondering if it has anything to do with the Shield not waking up the HDD and powering it fully. This should be coming in tomorrow. I’ll report back if this resolves my issues (though I’m not hopeful)
Same issue. HDHomerun Extend, latest firmware. Powerful i7 desktop gaming PC 32GB running Plex Media Server, plenty of throughput connected directly to Archer C9 router and power line ethernet adapters. Accessing via Plex for Roku. 1080 720 480 resolutions, doesn’t matter. Just a ■■■■■■ experience all around and I’m about to cancel my Plex Pass and return all equipment out of frustration. Maybe go back to cable (I hope this makes someone who can resolve this issue shudder).
Same problem. Huappage dual USB tuner with Kingston usb3 128gb stick. Made way better by using external storage (recording and transcoding) rather than internal storage.
Still heavy pixelation though.
Live TV works fine.
Will try external power next? Don’t think that will help though…
Quick update - for those shows that have Remove Commercials disabled I’m not seeing the issues. To be clear, Remove Commercials was working perfectly in the previous version of PMS. I’ll experiment some more and see if I can isolate it regarding the Remove Commercials setting.
Help. I am new to this whole thing. Plex on a Nvidia Shield TV with a 256Gb flash drive connected as external storage as my plex media server. HDhomerun Quatro connected to an antenna. DVR recordings are pixelated and stutters and audio gets out of sync with video. I find it interesting that Plex will gladly sell me plex pass for DVR service but here this strand in a year old and no solution posted from PLEX. I think I might have made a mistake using plex as my DVR. Maybe the HDhomerun DVR service will work. thanks for any suggestions or help.
I have the same issue using the DVR on the Plex Shield app; lots of pixelation and skipping.
However, using the HDHomeRun app dvr functionality, there is absolutely no stuttering or skipping. They both record to the same external drive which is plugged in to the Shield.
Why does the Plex DVR give such poor, inconsistent quality while the HDHomeRun app DVR work so well when the hardware is the same?
Chiming in here with the same sorts of issues, as it’s driving me up the wall.
nVidia Shield (2017)
2.5" Seagate USB3 external HDD (powered via Shield)
HDHomeRun Duo (HDHR5-2DT)
PMS running on internal Shield storage, with libraries on external storage (Samsung HDD)
All software and firmware updated to latest versions.
Live TV and DVR recordings on Plex result in audio sync issues after a few minutes of watching. A temporary workaround is to rewind the video 10-15 seconds or so and resume playback, but it’s incredibly frustrating to have to keep doing this throughout an entire TV show, game or movie.
The HDHomeRun app has no issues with live TV or DVR, however the interface and DVR function compared with Plex quite literally sucks.
I’m currently evaluating both Plex Pass and HDHomeRun DVR and would love to be able to go with Plex Pass over HDHR DVR, however the audio sync issue is making the whole thing unusable.
Does anybody have any suggestions on how to resolve this?
Same issue here on Version 1.14.1.5488.
I have a Nvidia Shield TV 2017, 128GB USB3 drive set as internal storage, 4gb WD MYCLOUD NAS Drive, HD HomeRun Connect Duo. All channels work perfectly with both HDHR and Live Channels apps, with nearly all channels at 100% signal strength and quality, but on Plex, most of the channels stutter, with audio and video going out of sync, and this spoils the recordings, which also show the same issue.
I’m not aware whether this problem is version specific, but has always been present since I purchased a Plex Pass in Dec18
Same issue here. Happens when watching recordings that are still in progess, as well. Typically when the wife is watching her shows, which is an added plus. Windows 10 Plex server, a HDHOMERUN Prime with Verizon cable card and Shield TV app. All hard wired.
I recently installed Plex’s live TV & DVR functionality on my Plex server and was curious why most of the HD recordings it made from the HDHomeRun looked like it had poor signal with digital drop outs, bad pixelation, etc. Yet signal strength and symbol quality are excellent plus watching live with the HDHomeRun app shows no such problems. I found this topic on the Plex forum after a search, I suppose there is some comfort in knowing it is a recognized problem but appears to be unaddressed after so much time. Indicates perhaps I should look elsewhere for OTA TV setup?
