Plex DVR Recordings using HDHomeRun Extend Periodic Pixelation / Skipping / Audio Out of Sync

Pretty depressing really - long time supporter and recommender of Plex. Plex pass member, etc. Plex DVR/live TV is the only reason that I hold out for the pass - but may need to cut losses soon, as an experience, its beyond painful and one that we are paying for…may as well spend the money on the HDHomerun app instead.

I too have been experiencing the pixelation and degradation that others describe. Interestingly, all was good initially, but over time the poor quality of the recordings has now gotten to the point that they are unwatchable.

I use both a Synology and ShieldTV as a server, problem exists on both. Both are hard wired to my home network and my HDHomeRun Quattro.

As a test, I can watch live TV via Plex on my iPad over WiFi or from one of my servers via hard wired, glitch free. The same channel/show recorded has significant quality issues.

As a cord cutter, my strategy was to consolidate everything within Plex. It’s a great product and does well for everything but the live recordings which is critical in my household.

Has anyone experimented with other DVR software to record the live TV, then save them into a folder that Plex can use for playback?

Misery loves company, I guess?

HD HomeRun Connect Duo and Plex on my Nvidia Shield - all versions are as up to date as possible, absolutely zero issues with live TV via the HD HomeRun app (haven’t tested DVR, I assume it’d work as it does for everyone else…). Zero issues with other streaming services (Hulu, Netflix, PS VUE - RIP -, YouTube, HBO, etc…). Zero issues with live TV and my OTA antenna.

But trying to watch live TV or DVRd shows on my Shield via Plex? Forget about it. Trying to watch live TV or DVRd shows on my phone via Plex? Forget about it. Trying to watch live TV or DVRd shows on my laptop? Ha, why bother.

Thinking it’s time to cut my losses on this one. No need to pay a company for a service I don’t use, and that they clearly can’t be bothered to attempt to fix.

Just an update, the new PRO hardware version of Shield appears to mostly correct this. I haven’t tried transcoding or removing the commercials but I’ve only noticed this once for 3 hours of recording/watching so far. Would need someone else to confirm. If so this might be due to hardware running out of resources.
