Plex Employee to Reset Server Certificate? "API rate limit exceeded" error

My Plex Media Server is crashing once or twice a day. It seems like I am having the same issue as the person noted here.

Can a Plex Employee check out the log details below, and let me know if I am having an issue with my server certificate?

Can you upgrade to the latest public release to verify if the certificate related updates already fix that issue?

I am currently running 1.23.0.4497-a1b1f3c10

This problem has been persisting over the last few updates, and has always been a problem since I installed Plex on this computer.

I reset your cert.

the fix was in the public build. afaik it should be in next beta as well.

Thank you! Should I do anything on my end, or just start the Plex Media Server and see if the problem has been fixed?

yeah it should get a new cert when it starts up. Possibly you might need to clear cache/site data on browser if you were having issues with web app connecting.

Thank you for the quick reply! I’ve never had an issue with the web app, it’s always been the server crashing randomly.

I will continue using this version of Plex until the next beta comes out. There is no way to easily downgrade to PMS 1.22.3.4523-d0ce30438 (Public), where the problem is fixed, correct?

If you are on windows just do a regular uninstall in via control panel like normal and then manually run the 1.22.3 installer which you can get from downloads page. Your PMS folder in app data and registry should remain intact.

@BigWheel @tom80H - I downgraded to PMS 1.22.3.4523-d0ce30438 (Public) and @BigWheel
reset my cert., but I ended up with the same issue (random crashing when idle or in use). Here are the errors closest to the crash. Can you help with this error? If you need additional log info, I’ve attached it for your review.

@BigWheel @tom80H - I’ve found out the IP Address below belongs to a Sony Android TV in my home. Could this be causing Plex Media Server to crash, even when it’s idle?

Unlikely… it’s been doing this already several times. Malformed SSDP schema feedback usually won’t kill your PMS. The network setup however seems to give it quite a hard time – not sure that’s related to the actual crash, though.

that is just the server looking for devices like DVR tuners on the network. your TV is replying with xml info as if it is a viable device, but as the server tries to read the xml it causes errors because it is not. Often some routers will cause the same errors. I’ve never heard of it causing a crash.

@BigWheel @tom80H - Thank you both for the feedback. I guess I’m out of luck.

@BigWheel - Can you reset my cert one last time for good measure? Now that I’m on PMS 1.22.3.4523-d0ce30438 (Public), maybe it will help.

sure. done

I am having the same issue, even after updating to the most recent PMS (1.22.3.4523-d0ce30438) on Windows 10. I did recently migrate my server to a new machine. Everything else is working properly, but I can’t correctly access the server via app.plex.tv and looking at my logs I see the same API rate limit error when it tries to acquire a certificate on startup. Is the solution here for a Plex employee to update my certificate?

@DarthMarkov done.

Thank you! All working correctly now.

If anyone is following this, I may have found the issue. My most recent crash included an error message related to Razer Cortex/Synapse. I uninstalled it and my computer is running much better and quieter, saving over 8% of memory when idle. I haven’t had a PMS crash in the last 24 hours, which is the longest time I’ve gone without a crash.

I will provide an update if I no longer experience the crashing, but it’s looking good so far.

Hello. I have had this crashing issue for at least two months with the server crashing every few hours with no discernible pattern. I see you made progress by removing that program. I’m on windows 8.1. I’m not sure if I have that program. What is it ? I’m not sure if this certificate reset your talking about would help me.
