Plex EPG & Live TV v Emby

@WildBill_PDX Many thanks for the info, but here in the UK zap2xml won’t let me register or do anything, it keeps displaying “This Page cannot be Displayed!” Ah, will carry on with the half filled glass on the Freeview UK channels till they realise others are jumping ship… I did consider it the other week and going to Emby, but after shelling out for the lifetime pass just after Xmas, I’m leaving it for a while longer

Dave

A quick google search gave me this, don’t know if it would work for you:

Also found this on Plex:

@WildBill_PDX Cheers. snd yeah I found XMLTV a while ago, but it doesn’t cover, or it doesn’t seem to cover the missing channels here in South Wales, a little like the Pap that Plex are shoving out at the present.
If only Plex would finally listen to their fully paid up users that cut the cord without hesitation on their expensive Satellite subscription, and perfect the TV EPG once and for all, Plex would be a much better experience.
There has to be a way to get an XML guide for Freeview in the UK that covers A:LL the channels. Seems I’m now seriously thinking of going over to another well known server…

Dave

This may be my last post… What are you guys playing at with the EPG!! UK Freeview has now lost 2 channels in the EPG on top of the multiple Radio stations that aren’t listed that should be!!
Setting up XMLTV is a nightmare, total waste of time!! If you’re going advertise Live TV then get it working with the EPG!! As I keep saying, Gracenote is a waste of SPACE!! Freeview UK do a Android app with all the channel guides on there, is there a way of pulling their EPG data??? I hope @ChuckPA or @sa2000 or another Plex Team Member or Developer can answer this one?? Getting rather annoyed with it now!!

Dave

I can understand your pain Dave. I paid for a ‘Cable cutting’ solution only to find that Plex have delivered a very sub standard EPG, in fact so bad I fail to see how it could be charged for.
In my view, Plex are pursuing money (Tidal, which I think will sink quickly, no pun intended, given other well established market alternatives.) rather than keeping loyal paying customers happy… huge mistake.
Switched to Emby and more than pleased, it’s miles ahead of Plex. If i’d have stayed… I would be very frustrated.

Hi @PristDean,
The only thing that’s stopping me from making the switch to another server is that I’ve not long bought a Plex Lifetime pass. I’ve been using Plex for a few years, and the TV side gets used a lot now on both home network with the family and remotely to. Live TV should get looked at and fixed before anything else gets added, and being pass users, you would think they’d listen, bit as it stands at present, a little like the UK government and Brexit, things fall on deaf ears.
I do hope, on top of adding this to the dashboard, that the developers listen and get the live TV working properly with the EPG, as for my love of Gracenote, I’ve never liked the company, and there’s nothing stopping Plex from actually using a EPG that isn’t Onconnect, as I have mentioned, Freeview UK have a TV guide on Android that has all the channels and if only we knew what the URL was for it, I’d use that one than the current one that has channels missing and ones that go missing as at least 4 more have done in the last 48 hours, and asking to add them back is a joke to!!

So, please I wonder if @sa2000, @ChuckPA or another Plex Member or developer actually reads this and finally pass on this info to get the EPG working??

Hi Dave,
I can understand how you feel, I paid for full Plex pass, only to come to the conclusion about a month or so later that the EPG was so poor, I wondered how they had the bare face cheek to sell it. So after seeing the complete lack of effort & listening from Plex to these concerns (Brexit is a good analogy, majority of people want a change, yet not being listened to) I bit the bullet and plumped / voted for Emby, glad I did.
So, will anyone at Plex ever listen? @sa2000, @ChuckPA … anyone ? or are Plex prepared to ignore their people and suffer a mass exodus.

Just had email from Plex (i’ll unsubscribe now) … but this clearly demonstrates the direction they are taking to me.
Subject: ’ Get a sixty second music makeover’
Body: loaded with how you can obtain and organise your music via Tidal, along with a mission statement which reads:
"At Plex, our mission is to provide you with an experience you can’t get anywhere else: a single app to enjoy all your media. We care about quality, personalization, privacy, and so much more. Which is why we work tirelessly to constantly bring you new features, providers and partners to level up the whole experience.
So if your TI-curious, try music free for 30 days and see for yourself if it rocks your world "
So they seem to be all about the ‘music’ and driving towards another subscription based offering whilst abandoning their EPG, film etc etc. Not sure how this will play out for Plex with the likes of Spotify etc already with a huge market foothold. It’s a shame that Plex seem to be abandoning their core customer base in pursuit of revenue via a new music offering. Oh well, Glad i’m with Emby. ‘Horses for courses’ of course !

Im a little confused with DVR now, im in New Zealand and am fine with no EPG as i use XMLTV for better EPG anyway. BUT now it seems i cant use DVR at all as when i setup my DVR i have to choose a country and New Zealand is no longer listed so i cant scan and continue forward.

Any help here would be great as rather than no be able to use EPG it seems now i cant use DVR at all.

I’d like to know where Freeview UK get their data as well.

It’s probably an internal business to business service that’s unavailable for public use.

That same data may be shared to companies like Gracenote.

This data is probably sold to Gracenote, then Gracenote charges client’s like Plex to consume it.

How may lifetime plex pass subscriptions does it take to pay for an annual subscription to Gracenote?

Sorry for the late reply, have had a family emergency. I’ve since found a few Android apps that also have better EPG data than the Freeview Plex EPG currently has, and as of a couple of days ago, we lost another channel on the EPG!! As I’ve said before in another thread I seem to remember, the letting Plex/Gracenote know of missing/none existent channels falls on deaf ears it seems!!!
Would it not be possible to find out where these Android TV listing apps get their EPG data from and be able to pull the data from them?
