Plex errors on Apple TV and iPad but not on Fire TV and Mac mini

Starting a few days ago, our Apple TV (latest version 64MB ATV) and iPads(also newest iPad Pro and Air) began giving an error message whenever we tried to play a .265 MKV file. They have been playing flawlessly up to now. All of a sudden we get this error “no direct play video profile exists for protocol http, with container mkv and video codex hevc. Could not transcode. Not enough CPU for conversion of this item.” When I try to play it on my Mac mini or Fire TV cube, the file will play normally with no problem. Nothing has changed with the ATV or iPad (except possible updates). The Plex server is running on a Drobo 5N. I’ve tried changing the settings on the Plex app, etc. but nothing seems to make the .265 files work as before. I tried playing files that we originally watched on the Apple TV but now gives that same error message. It is truly mind-boggling that this just up and happened out of the blue and I can’t seem to find anyone else who’s had this problem. If anyone has any idea what may be going on, I would love a hint as to how to fix this issue.

any further details about those files?
can you maybe post the <Media> element and its content from > Get Info > View XML of an item that gives you that error message?
Your server logs might contain some details about why PMS considers the videos need to be transcoded.

I was just playing with the Apple TV and iPad again. I turned off the “Automatically Adjust video” setting. And now everything is playing again! I don’t know if the setting got turned on during an update or what but I changed it on both the Apple TV and iPad and suddenly everything is back to normal. I did turn on the logging function in the Plex app of the ATV just in case something goes wrong again I can pull the logs for more info.
