Problem description:
My NAS updated to DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 6 from Update 5. After reboot, Plex didn’t start and said “repair”. Repair always failed with a “Failed to start”

Debugging steps:

Initially I tried making sure the database was good (it was)
I then uninstalled and reinstalled - same issue
I backed up my install and then did a complete uninstall, followed by an install, and still got the same issue.

I began to wonder if it was picking up something from a couple of years ago when it was running DSM 6. So I uninstalled Plex, then removed the Plex shares and the PlexMediaServer user and groups and checked to make sure that something funky wasn’t still existing after the uninstall. I then reinstalled and the install succeeded, but it fell back to being stuck in a “Repair/Failed to start” loop.

If I manually start plex from the command line, it does start, so it’s not an actual issue with Plex.

I initially posted over on the discord and @ChuckPa redirected me to the support forums. I hope this is in the right spot.

Logs, etc follow
Thanks

Error:

Uninstall the package,
At the 2nd page - Click Uninstall only (Keep)

Then reinstall the same SPK.

After you attempt that,
Make a ZIP file (using FileStation) of the “Logs” directory in the “PlexMediaServer” directory.

Please attach that ZIP file.

After that, restart DSM. (Sometimes it does need a restart after OS update)

Did some additional research.

Other packages have experienced this problem.

  1. Reboot
  2. Reinstall package (keep your data)

has been the common solution.

It seems the update changed something in how packages start.
3rd party packages were impacted the most.
