Ok, I can reproduce. Weirdly it only happens for me if I have resolution and refresh rate switching enabled, when it’s disabled it doesn’t happen at least for me.

So it’s looking like we will need to disable DTS passthrough on the Cube entirely as its support is subpar nothing we try works. I have had a few occasions where the cube would return that it doesn’t support DTS at all.
I cannot reproduce the same issue on the newer FireTV 4K stick (AFTKM) that has OS8.
Thats a shame as the Cube is down as being compatible with both DTS and DTS-HD passthrough.
It works via Kodi and Jellyfin on the Cube so DTS is supported, plex seems to be the only app that has issues.
I cant comment on Jellyfin but Kodi use there own passthrough drivers whereas Plex relies on the device to correctly passthrough the audio.
Ok thank you for explaining.
If DTS passthrough is disabled on the Cube will Plex then transcode the audio into a format that can be understood by the cube? Roughly just under half my library has DTS soundtracks.
No, it should not transcode it but rather use our own decoder so the same as if you had to disable passthrough in the app.
Are you sure you still see the issue when disabling refresh rate and resolution switching? The issue only appears for me when it’s enabled, there is also a match frame rate setting on the cube itself is this enabled?
I did some testing on one of our competitor’s apps and I get the same stuttering but once again only when resolution switching is on.
Yes 100% still see the issue with refresh rate, resolution switch and match frame rate all disabled.
I have lost some dts also on cube3. Tried playing mkv with DTS-MA that has played and now get a network error. Will work with ac3 stream.
On firetv max that does not support dts, same dts-ma stream is transcoded.
Not sure why stating it is a network issue. File is good, has been working. Was running several month old version of server and had updated to latest a few days ago.
Terramaster x86 based Nas for server.
Hi Morgan, can you estimate when this can be fixed? I don’t agree the dev team really has ‘tried everything’, as others have obviously developed this successfully. Plex is the outlier here in not being able to support DTS formats, and other open-source (Which you could presumably look at?) players are able to support this for some time. As a full Plex license holder, this isn’t really what I signed up for. I can see it’s high on many peoples requirements, yet still persists. We would all really appreciate a fix for this!
Thanks, Paul
Good Luck is all I will say, plex doesn’t seem to care anymore about the thoughts and requests of it’s paying customers.
I just ended up going through my entire library and changing all my DTS movies using Tdarr to EAC3
The other apps you are referring to do not always rely on the device to support the format they instead create their own audio decoders to decode the audio format which is not something we can currently do. We have sent this information to Amazon but have not gotten a response from them, I will try follow up.
I understand your frustration but all we do from our side is enable the support it is then up to the device to support it.
Any luck? I’m literally waiting for this to get fixed, and I know I’m not the only one… Its either this or blow another £200 on a shield because you guys can’t figure it out? I’m not able to play anything other than then basics - TrueHD / DTS / etc., doesn’t work at all.
It is still not fixed. DTS films are all output in PCM on the Cube 3rd Generation on my LG soundbar. The Plex Pass costs an average of $100 and the developers have no desire to implement their own option like with free voluntary open source software like Kodi. It’s a shame that I bought the pass.
Hello to add I am also experiencing this growing problem. I think the DEV team really needs to get to the bottom of this because a lot of people have bought into the cube TV.
Maybe reach out to the Kodi people, they got a fix: Fire TV Cube 3 & HD Audio Passthrough w/24p Support (Workaround Builds)
I bit the bullet and bought an Nvidia Shield Pro for $220. It’s not a solution, I know, but I’ve had enough of it.
I would love to switch to a Shield but unfortunately the shield doesn’t support HLG HDR which some broadcasters (BBC) have their 4k HDR programs in ![]()
This is my main reason I won’t spend the money on the Plex Lifetime Pass. If this isn’t happening with other apps then the Plex dev team needs to get on a fix. There is no reason they cannot implement a fix this long after we have reported this issue. It’s completely unacceptable. I use a Fire TV/Cube as my “all in one” solution for everything but looks like I will need to consider something else and something else other than Plex as the main driver.
For some reason same thing for me. I have a Sony STR-DH790 and it cant seem to understand how to play DTS-HD MA 7.1. It reads it as DTS 5.1. I dont know if it did before but I have noticed this recently.
I have to turn passthrough off on the app for it to work. Only DTS-MA 7.1 files do this.
Same as others when passthrough is on, studders and cuts out randomly, seems to be when lots of sound is happening.
Really disappointed and makes me look for a copy with other audio
My server is on a QNAP T462. TV is Sony x90K 65
