Thanks Elan - I’m sure it’s a massive lift to “undo” and rewrite the schema. I’d just reiterate that I’m willing to put $ towards a bounty for this. Plexamp has the best UI for music players, and after setting up one headless plexamp on a pi + dac deploying them across the property is a breeze.
The challenge where I can’t get my normie friends to get into the ecosystem for music due to the various artists per track issue, and also has a very low WAF. I’m forced to continue my Spotify subscription even though plexamp is superior in every other way. Again, acknowledging the DB overhaul would be a massive undertaking.
I saw a response from a Plex employee in another thread here saying that Tidal seemingly is indeed ending all third party integration, but that the other services may not have announced it yet. I don’t blame the Roon users for being concerned because it’s not looking good.
Also, @elan thanks so much for responding to my comment. I hugely appreciate all of the work you’ve poured into making Plexamp so good.
We hope you can consider non-English speaking users more. For example:
- Support fetching actors’ names and biographies in the user’s language.
- Support displaying all content in the Discover page according to the user’s language.
- Display country information according to the user’s language.
Regarding the actors’ names and biographies, TMDB already supports editing information in multiple languages, so TMDB already has multilingual data. The Movie Database agent in Plex currently supports displaying actors’ names in the user’s language, but the new Plex agent does not. Since you will be removing The Movie Database agent, please add the feature to retrieve user language data in the new Plex agent.
Otherwise, we cannot search for actors or directors in our own language, nor can we smoothly browse the Discover section, which is very inconvenient.
Additionally, due to certain reasons, many regions in mainland China can no longer connect to the domains and services related to plex.tv, leading to issues such as being unable to scrape metadata and log into the Plex app. While the inability to scrape metadata is not too big of an issue, a much more serious problem is that many users are now unable to log into the Plex app, meaning they cannot access their own Plex media libraries, even when trying to use them locally.
The issue with logging into the app mainly occurs on certain Android devices. These devices seem to require a connection to plex.tv for verification every time the Plex app is opened. However, due to network issues, these regions are unable to access the relevant plex.tv addresses, leading to verification failures and preventing users from logging into the app. This has had a significant impact on users in mainland China.
Some users have already reported this issue on the forums, but it has yet to be resolved. This is causing a serious inconvenience for users in mainland China. We hope that you can provide some solutions to address this problem.
Although I just submitted a feature request for this in the proper forum (this thread has eyes on it), please look to make poster editing more usable in Plex Dash with at the very least a way to quickly jump to a letter. It takes multiple MINUTES to scroll to a letter if you are editing a huge library (9K+). I am modifying a huge library because I don’t like my poster changing automatically to worse poster art, and I need to do it 1 by 1 to lock the field. And the thing is, using Plex Dash to modify artwork is the fastest and best way but this makes it completely unusable right now.
Hoping this type of sorting is low hanging fruit and could quickly be done, just hadn’t thought about it before.
It isn’t that we can’t talk about it - it is just that we don’t really know - we only know specific details regarding our integration and that integration ending. I am not aware of any official messaging regarding the intent with other integrations.
Hey @don.alcombright ! Thanks for joining us in the Fireside chat! We will check out your other post but I will note that performance in the Dash app is not only dependent on the app but also on the server providing the information. If the Dash app is the fastest thing in existence it can only render the information as quickly as the server provides it so network conditions and server processing could be contributing factors here.
Hi Everone,
Just want to thank you for all you guys do. I’ve been a longtime plex pass member and this application has changed the way I use media.
Love the plexamp app! One thing I would love to see is a way the images of the album rotate as a screensaver. I’ve got a lot of albums with not just album covers, but back images of album, insides of double albums. Perhaps I would even add concert pics if they would rotate while playing the music.
Thanks
Edit: This issue is more metadata-related, not specifically Android-related. I realize now that the images I presented was from in my browser, so I wanted to be clear that this isn’t a client-based issue.
I prefixed it with Managed User, because I suspected that it may have to do with DISCOVER not being fully available on a Managed User account (it’s kind of hard to tell, I can’t see a list of ALL movies someone is in when I select an actor in my movie, but sometimes I can, and I haven’t figured out why). However, all my issues happen as a Managed User, as I do not use any regular user accounts to view my content on.
For an example of an actor given credit for a movie, but is not on the list of actors for the movie, check out Liam Neeson in Ponyo. In Discover (and in my server), Liam Neeson is credited as Fujimoto (which he is. his voice is unmistakable). However, the cast list for Ponyo contains zero English actors, least of all Liam himself:

This is VERY common in a lot of dubbed movies, so much that when I see that “X” is in a movie, but it’s a dub/anime, I don’t bother clicking it to find out what they did, since it won’t list it.
I kind of understand this being an issue, as you won’t want to find and list EVERY SINGLE dub for every single language for every single version of a movie (UK dub vs US dub can even have different actors), and it can be impossible to detect which dub version I have. Rarely though, the cast listing WILL have the English dub cast alongside the original cast, and it’s nice when that happens, but very rare.
For a concrete case of “X is in Y but I can’t find them” in a non-dub, I will have to search for a case. If I can recall what it was and find one, I’ll let you know.
I’ve been using the extras features a lot recently, as I’ve ripped my DVD collection into Plex. Firstly, is there any info you could share on future internal plans for extras? New features, fixes etc.?
Personally, I have a few things that would improve my experience:
- More flexibility of categories - the existing categories are fine, but it would be great if there was the ability to categorise extras in your own way (ideally named whatever!)
- Ordering of extras - I’m often finding that my DVD’s contain extras presented in a specific order (e.g. date). Currently, I’m just having to call my files “1. extra one”, “2. extra two” etc, it would be nice if there was a way we could specify an ordering for extras that isn’t then visible in the extra name.
- Descriptions - Occasionally the extras have some description text, being able to include this would be cool
- Browsing extras - Just having one long line of extras that you have to scroll through to find what you want isn’t a great experience. Could extras perhaps just be a button that takes you to another UI?
- More indication that extras exist - It would be nice if there was some marker to indicate that extras were present for an item as they’re often missable
… fixing the opening/ending extras messing up regular extras
Just to throw that one into the ring as well ![]()
I just received this reply from Tidal support, so it appears that only support for Plex is ending:
“We would like to confirm that the integration with Roon and Audirvana will continue. Let us know if you have other questions.”
Have you tried Kodi with Plex Kodi Connect Mod? Far better experience.
Any comments on the following?
-
Android app bug when going to My Profile: Android app: going to My Profile errors "Something Went Wrong"
-
Support advanced filters in search and dynamic playlists (both web and apps, Plexamp): path substring, codec, etc. Just expose all metadata the server has please for advanced users to filter on.
-
Future of music integrations: please add popular music services and open it up to plugins so others can write integrations if you don’t have the resources to provide official integrations.
Hey there! Thanks for doing this Fireside Chat.
Here’s a question…
I love Sonos (not counting their most recent updates), and I love Plexamp. However, when I open the Sonos app and use Plex, it’s a really bad old-school experience. It’s not Plexamp. Can you make the Plexamp experience in the Sonos app? AirPlay 2 doesn’t really cut it, in terms of having the full flexibility that Sonos offers. Thanks!
Could you please implement a proper issue/bug tracking database, e.g. GitHub issues, where bugs can be tracked, discussed and voted on for prioritization? The forums are not great when threads auto-close and some long standing bugs are never acknowledged by Plex.
Any plan for a “TV” type of feature where you can choose a smattering of “shows” and have Plex play a random assortment as if it was a TV channel? All third party options looks really complicated for this.
I think my post was confusing. Plex Dash poster modification is super fast and excellent. And it scrolls through movies super fast as well. The problem is, single scrolling through 9K plus movies is miserable. If I need to edit poster art for an M movie it takes 5+ minutes of scrolling to get to M.
A long time dream for me would be below:
Plex users who have access to multiple Plex libraries that have similar content should be able to browse all content from all libraries in a single view. Then when looking to play that content, it would play it from the preferred library (perhaps the local library, or the library owned by that plex user) if it exists first, or select a shared library if it didn’t exist locally.
If multiple libraries contain the content, the user should be able to set a quality target to play automatically. Eg: If Library X has 4K, but Library Y has 1080p only, it would play Library X automatically if 4K was the quality target, or it would play Library Y at 1080p if only 1080p was set as the quality target. If buffering or playback issues were detected, an option to flip to a different library could be prompted (Eg: it appears you are having issues from Library X. Do you want to try to play the content from Library Y instead?). Or even allow it to happen automatically (and even better, allow the client to select a preferred selection of libraries if multiple libraries are present).
Also, this would work way better if editions show properly as well.
Can an option to set our own threshold for an episode/movie completion be set? Too often on a show episode am I maybe 85% done and back out and when I come back it’s at the next ep.
