Hello! Thanks for the work you all do, it’s much appreciated! Few things I didn’t see discussed which would be fantastic to get feedback on:
- The OP mentioned audiobooks but I’m not sure what decisions were made! Has consideration been given to supporting audiobooks? Some of us have quite the CD collection and it’d be fantastic to manage them through Plex (and have them tracked as distinct audiobooks, not CD tracks).
- Photos! We’re paying for Google Photos now but I would LOVE to be able to use my Plex server for this. (I shouldn’t say this but I’d rather give you all extra money on top of Plex Pass than keep giving Google money). I feel like Photos functionality hasn’t kept up. Are there plans to deprecate it? Plans to invest further? Or will it just continue sitting in its current state?
- Edit-- oh, I forgot the other thing: there are some songs I don’t like / don’t want to listen to, but I don’t want to delete from the album for completeness’ sake. Has there been any thought to a feature that “auto skips 1-star songs” or something, which folks could turn on?
Thank you!
Hi @hsousa let me see if I can clarify.
1 - Deletion, I mean in the GUI, under a DVR recorded show, lets say I have 12 shows in a season and I am going through them and decide I wanted to delete one of the show for example. I must select the show, click on the triple dots, go into another menu, click delete, and then confirm. I’d love the option of being able to delete an episode directly from the episode selection. Similar to how you can mark as unwatched / watched, etc. Does that help or make sense?
2 - That is correct. For example, I record a series I have watched before. If it re-records and episode I have already watched, it marks it as watched, which is probably the right thing the do so one doesn’t get confused with what episodes I’ve watched. However, for a series I watch a lot while say falling asleep, I don’t care if it removes an episode after x days. So I have a DVR rule that says record all episodes and I have set the maximum number of unplayed episodes to keep for the show to episodes added in the last 7 days. however, it doesn’t seem to ever delete them. I can keep a closer eye on this too. On show I record and keep a maximum of 3 unplayed episodes and delete after 24 hours of watching. But it seems like it doesn’t delete the episodes after I re-watched one of them. This may be a bit of an odd case I guess.
Actually, that’s already available.
See the Video played threshold and Video play completion behavior pair of preferences on the ‘Settings > Server > Libraries’ settings page.
Hi There,
With football ball season approaching. I am wondering if you plan supporting Ac4 audio for Nextgen tv recordings using liveTv/DVR.
If you do this, please make it a track-level option.
In the case of holiday music a lot of “normal” albums have a single Xmas track. It’s that one track – or that one interview or skit – that I never want to show up in radio stations and other automatic content.
For me, anyway, an album-level lockout would be worthless because I do not have any albums that are 100% things I don’t want to hear… But I have a lot of albums that have a few tracks I never want to hear.
I agree this would be epic. In the meantime, I still add all artists into to my tracks. Multiple values with a null separator don’t blow up Plex, it just ignores all but the first. Someday, it will pay off…
I have read a comment from another one here: “You mentioned earlier this year about removing support for plugins and 3rd party scanners, with this in mind do you have any plans to add audiobook support in the future?”
Does this effect Prologue!? I have all my audiobooks in Plex and use Prologue together with the rest of my family. Even the kids are managed through whitelists so they can only hear what is suitable for them. It is nearly perfect. It would be the worst thing ever if this tool would be banned from using plex as a server. We use it every day.
Maybe it’s just me but my Music player through the Plex Client doesn’t pass the Dark Side of the Moon test. PlexAmp it plays fine, but you (still) don’t have gapless playback in the regular music client. Is there a way to use the PlexAmp client to play music in the main Plex client?
Also, I love that Visualizers are in PlexAmp - but it would be really nice for that to be full screen and not just part of the screen. Also, if there’s no plans to replace the Plex music client, can we at least get a Remote Friendly version of PlexAmp for Nvidia Shield/AndroidTV/etc with that full screen Visualizer?
While I’m wishing, could we also integrate Music Videos into that PlexAmp for TVs?
Speaking of Plexamp, it would be great if the Android version was flagged as installable on Google TV so we don’t have to keep side loading it from dubious third parties. Also, it would be great if the Mac version supported proxies (even just the system PAC) so that I could use it on my work machine while working rather than one of the mainstream streaming providers.
In the former case, the threads get closed with “this is not a big screen app” though it works just fine on a 4K Google TV. In the latter, the only thread I’ve found ever got no response whatsoever and was closed.
Plexamp is definitely one of the shining stars in the Plex ecosystem, and it doesn’t seem to get the attention it deserves from either the community or the Plex team (well recently it’s gotten some nice updates!).
It would be nice to see it positioned even more strongly as a self-hosted replacement for the streaming services we all keep paying for despite having our own collections.
Hi There,
when is a Windows ARM native version of plex player and plexamp available ?
Please give specific answers, as far as I can remember, a macOS ARM version was only built after concrete pressure from users.
Tidal didn’t say why they’re terminating Plex integration? Nothing about whether it was a financial or technical issue? Was there any attempt on either side to renegotiate the contract?
I’m sure I’m in the vast minority here, but for those of us who only use Plex for Plexamp (and not any of the video stuff), and who count on Tidal integration to discover new music and fill in gaps (such as one hit wonders) in our personal libraries, this announcement is a gut punch.
Hi all,
hi Plexies…
nice to see the fire side also in 2024.
Something that bothers me…
a) no way of adding metadata using 3rd party agents (including a documentation of how to program agents/scanners) for the new Plex agents. I asked for this last fire side and was told that it will come… no news yet on it.
b) Add a safety layer for posters for TV shows and movies. During the last couple of months, there was a provider change for posters, there were bugs that changed posters, etc…
You can easily keep the way you handle posters. But I would like to have a UI way of “makeing this image the permanent poster” of a TV show, a season or a movie.
In the background, download this poster and put it into a user-configurable folder (not the normal cache) and always use that graphics file. Never do any more updates or checks for that element - until the user decides to not have it as a permanent poster any longer.
That way, the downloaded poster can be back-upped by the user, too.
c) Trailers… please enable me as a PMS super user to delete trailers for movies or search for updates for extras via UI. PMS downloaded English trailers for one third of my movie files (a bug) and never updated them to German ones… then there are movies, I do not want to have trailers for.
d) Trailers… please allow users to configure age rating rules for trailers. For example, I configured all player Plex apps to show trailers, but I can never see trailers for movies without an age rating. And it uses US age ratings to decide on what trailers are going to be pre-played - even if all the movies have non-English age rating settings. I can elaborate on this if necessary, but I would like to have a configuration per player app or on the PMS which age ratings are “okay” to show - or disable age rating limitations on trailer pre-plays alltogether if I want.
Thx
Any plans to implement Shareplay on IOS for Plexamp? I almost exclusively use plexamp in the car and would love it if other passengers could “DJ” with my plex music library while I’m driving. Plexamp is so great at this point, it’s tough to think of things to add!
Music discovery/purchasing would be great (similar to the Tidal integration, but with the ability to buy music and add it to your library a la something like bandcamp or other music purchasing services). Though I’m sure the cost and/or ability for plex to be able to make enough money to warrant an investment in a feature like that may preclude adding a feature like this.
My two cents:
- Photo album management. I think this was available some time ago but it was remove. Am I right?
- Ability to create pseudo TV channel out from our own content. Setting some logo, description, rules, and filling content between selected tv show episodes and/or movies. I think I have read that there were plans about it.
Yeah, that isn’t cool.
Elan has said it’s “intended” to be “in the corner” of a desktop screen, and yet we also have Plexamp for phones, and we can make it fullscreen on desktop if we want… so that rule is already broken.
Give us Plexamp for TVs, please. It’s the right thing to do even if no one on the team would choose to use it that way. And once we have multi-room synced playback it will be even more important. My home A/V system has a TV attached to it–not a phone, and not a PC.
I think the roadblock has been something related to licensing issues with Dolby. I imagine those issues still apply but would love to be wrong.
Just curious since I haven’t seen it mentioned (or possibly missed it being mentioned, lol) since I asked about it last year - is the whole home audio functionality for Plexamp still on the radar?
This?
Dolby Vision support would be nice- for now, I have to flip over to Infuse to view my DV content. I will keep doing that for now.
Pretty happy with the improvements. I have noticed some of my content no longer has poster art. I usually just look for it in Google, and steal something from there… but under normal circumstances, there are always a large quantity of posters and backgrounds to use. But for some reason, certain movies don’t populate with a poster they will just use a screenshot.
Example: “The Manchurian candidate“, original Frank Sinatra version. I refreshed and refreshed, and analyzed and fixed match, there are absolutely no posters available. That’s not the only film where I get nothing, but it is the most recent. The remake has plenty of posters.
Somebody mentioned a copyright issue, but DVD poster art is searchable on Google, so why would they restrict using it in Plex poster art?
Can someone please fix the Skip Intro button bug for users of 3rd party remotes?
On my remote, to use the Skip Intro function I need to press OK, then down, then right to select the Skip button and then OK again to make it skip. Netflix doesn’t have this problem.
I believe the only change to fix this this would be to listen for both scancode 353 (factory remote) AND 96 (3rd Party remote).
