Due to the lack of the option “Direct Play: Forced” (example in the picture of how it worked previously):
I still get the error: “Conversion failed. The converter closed or failed at launch”, when playing HDR videos.
Again, it was working on 5.10.x.y but only changing the option Direct Play to Forced. Installing 5.10, changing that option and upgrading to 6.3 it was still working (as long as I didn’t enter into any Plex client settings).
I open one tread for ask for this feature, sorry but i don’t know IF is not working/disabled, OR if it never exist on Android TV app.
I’m surprised, because the cast and crew works on my AppleTV 4, Roku Ultra, PS4 Web, MacOS, Windows, kodi and HT apps, but is not working on Android TV Client APP running on nVidia Shield v2.
IF that feature works before, I think that need to be addressed to the developers.
This hasn’t been implemented in the Android app.
Neither of these issues are directly related to 6.4.0.
Thank you for your answer @“MovieFan.Plex”
Do I need to made a request, in the request section? or, is a feature in working progress?
I ask you because all the other clients seems work with that feature that is not on the Android app.

Request for the Cast info? No need, it’s already on our todo list. I don’t have info on when it may be added but it’s on the list. Unfortunately, there are a lot of things on that list.

Thank you @“MovieFan.Plex” for your quick answer. Really appreciated.

On nVidia Shield Android TV, the options about direct play and direct stream are not showed anymore.
I think this is on purpose.
Correct.
Too bad because that was what made all my videos direct playing. Especially playing. Now some crash the converter as you can see in the attached pictures above.
But sure, if you make the auto option for transcoding working the lack of that option won’t be an issue for me.
Can you provide me a 30 second sample file? Confirm you see the same issue. There are some files that may play correctly when forced, but they might be encoded in a way that makes them incompatible with ffmpeg. I’ve seen files like this, so it’s not super rare.

Sure. I will put them in Google Drive , so we are sure you have access to the same identical videos.
It plays just fine in v5.10.x.y with Direct Play: Forced.
This one (Real 4K HDR 60fps - HDR vs SDR Comparison LG OLED Tech UHD (Chromecast Ultra)-7KkU7oomos4) instead was playing in 5.10 with Direct Play: Forced, but I had to skip forward and back 10 seconds to make it start. In 6.4 beta it just converts: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7gcPXn40kKPVUt2eG8yWjhUZWc/view?usp=sharing
It’s a profile vp9.2 (thus HDR) video downloaded from YouTube with "youtube-dl -f 337 ". Bizzarre enough it played in HDR only with Plex 5.10. Other media players play it straight but the TV doesn’t switch to HDR (that’s true for all YouTube vp9.2 videos on Bravia with Android TV 7.0). So, regarding the HDR thing, I don’t know what you are doing right, actually (that’s a thing bugging me personally about the YouTube HDR not working).
All my videos play in Sony’s Video, Kodi, VLC beta. Just the HDR thing for the YouTube vp9.2 videos don’t work in them. While a good percentage either get converted or don’t start at all in Plex (some vp9.2 YouTube videos do still play fine in Plex, though, with HDR included).

Any chance of bumping it up the list @“MovieFan.Plex”

Not sure if this is covered in a separate thread, but any progress on the Cast Info being added to the Shield Client? Status update?
Years and years have gone by and we are now close to 2020 and the cast section still has not been implemented on the shield version of the app even though it displays on all other versions of the player including web. This missing section is the single reason i didn’t by a lifetime Plex pass subscription FYI.
