Plex for Android 8.19.x breaks direct play from local network

Hi,

with latest updates Plex for Android 8.19.x, playing video in original quality doesn’t work anymore…
Plex will force transcode and appears playing from “127.0.0.1” in both tautulli or plexdesk

Downgrading to version Plex for Android 8.18.2 solves the problem (direct play works again, and lan ip is correctly shown in both tautulli and plexdesk).
(uninstall plex, and sideload kepler-arm64v8a-googlePlay-stdExo-8.18.2.25850-0905fbb3.apk from adb on my shield)

regards.

Expericing the same problem here on Nvidia Shield '17.

I am on 8.19 on both my 2019 Shield Pro and Sony XH95 and both are working fine.

Here are my current settings on the shield…

Although the 1 thing I do notice on 8.19 is that there is no longer a setting for Manual IP’s.

I wonder if this has been taken out??

Can you both please check if you have this setting on 8.18 and that you have also manually added the IP address of your PMS in order to combat the age old “offline useage” problem?

I have a slightly higher version that the one in your screenshot: 8.19.1.26306. That might make the difference.

I do not have an option to set a manual IP.

Here is a capture of my logs trying to play a 4K HDR title.

Welp, enabling HDMI passthrough seems to have cured my ills. Maybe it got disabled upon update? Not sure, but everything is Direct Playing now. I also disabled “recommended settings” under Home Streaming in the server settings and set it to Maximum.

Ah yes… That would definitely have caused a transcode.

Glad it’s now working for you :+1:

Tried to put the update again…
I’m welcomed with a message saying “indirect play, you’re not directly connected to this server”… Well, my server and my player should be seen as in the same network…
My player is in a 172.22.1.0/24 network and the server in 172.22.2.0/24 network. Both reachable from my router.
On plex, I have set the option of “Lan network” as “172.22.1.0/24,172.22.2.0/24”, so either it is ignored by the latest version of plex android client, or it’s broken!
What I see is that the client seems to use the “proxy” from plex (it wont work anymore if I disable it).
My problem is not link to any HDMI passtrough option but to the way the client try to handle the network I think.
Did something get changed in the latest version? I don’t see anything in the changelog…

In addition, Kodi with plexconnect is not impacted and still reads my files directly without any problem.

FIXES: Connectivity: ensure 172.x IP addresses are detected as local addresses.

Thanks !
