Hey!
I’ve been a Plex user for a while, and I really like how there are players for so many platforms! However, I’ve recently purchased one of Google’s newly revealed Chromecast with Google TVs.
One of the selling points for that device is the unified interface for browsing movies and TV shows from multiple different services in once place. Now, while I do use multiple services for my media, my primary source is my Plex server, and I’m wondering if we can expect there to be an official Plex integration/app for the Google TV, or if we will just have to rely on casting our media, as with the previous generations of Chromecast devices.
If there will be an app, I’d also be curious about the timeframe for its release. Is it just something that is planned? Is there something already in the works? Is there going to be something ready upon the release?
As a developer myself I understand that it may take a while, since there may be more work than it would initially appear, so I’m not expecting anything to be ready for the release (but if something was ready for that I’d be stoked of course), I’m just curious if there’s something planned, and if there is, if there’s an estimated timeframe for its public release.
Edit: after taking a look at these two existing threads (one and two) some of my questions have been answered. It looks like there will be a Plex app available: the existing Plex for Android TV app, and that the content on the for you tab isn’t influenced by local apps (i.e.: no Plex recommendations). However, I am still curious to see if when selecting one of the options on that tab, when choosing which service to watch it on (I haven’t received my new device yet, so I’m not sure how the interface works exactly) if Plex will be listed as an option if you have that piece of media on your Plex media server.
