Hello,
I am experiencing some Issues / Problems / Wishes with my current Plex Setup which has a Plex Server running on a Windows PC and a NVIDIA Shield (2018) serving as a Playback Client and a Android Smartphone with the latest App Version serving as a Companion for the Shield in Terms of Playback Control. The Playback itself if running is absolutely fine, i want that to be clear.
However, some Companion Features arent working the way i expect them too, i will list them all here (some i already posted some time ago but they didnt get considered).
TL;DR: Playback Control from Android is not possible with the New Player on Shield, Playback Controls (Audio/Subtitle Delay) for Companion Apps are lacking, I wish i wouldnt exit the App every Time i press the Back Button
- New Player on Shield : If the “new” Player is enabled on the Shield and i connect my Phone to the Shield Plex Instance, i can neither start a Playback (just a buffering circle forever), nor control the Playback with its current Options, i.e. change the Subtitle Track, when i started the Playback via the Shield Controller and then connected my Phone to the already running Media. I can select a Subtitle Track for Instance on my Phone, and it shows up as selected, however it isnt played back. So the Player and Android App suggest i got the desired Playback Option active, but it isnt which is very frustrating. What doesnt work either is when i connect to the Plex Instance on my Shield and select an Item from my Library it doesnt switch over to the current view as it does when the old Player is enabled.
- Lacking Playback Control: As i posted here already, im missing the simple Possibility like on Plex for Windows to control the current Audio or Subtitle Delay. I dont think its that much of a Hassle to implement it like it used to and feature it in the (Android) Apps that serve as a Companion or in the Players (e.g. for Shield) in general
- Android App Stack: The Usage of the Android App has changed in the past, however i lack the Option to use my “Back” key as i do in other Apps. When i go around in my Libraries and press the Back Button on the Library Level i immediately exit the app. I wish it would go back to the top most Item in the App like on the Shield to “Start” or atleast prompt for it (e.g. “do you really want to exit?”). Its no big deal but the usage of the App is annoying when you have to use the leftmost Navigation Bar to switch inbetween Libraries or Items and not accidentally exit the App and start over again.
- Android App Companion Settings?: In the Android App Settings there is an Item for “Companion & Cast Settings” which i always wished had the Features i described above, e.g. the Ability to set the Audio/Sub Delay or even configure the available Options for Playback Control in general. However that Section is completely empty for Months now at least. Is there any Plan with that and if so when is it to expect?
