  • PS4: Better handling of the PS home button during playback. Itā€™s again possible to turn off the controller outside of the Plex app and return to playback. Sorry about that!
  • PS3: Significant recalibration of our PS3 user experience to reduce memory consumption on device. Please see this post for more information.
  • PS3: Corrected logic preventing connection to a PMS Plex Companion proxy

For the PS3 this is mostly a behind the scenes bug fix release.

For the PS4, well, this kills that ugly blurple color that arrived with our 1.01 PSN store update. We hope you enjoy using the newly updated PS4 app (with itā€™s BLACK background) as much as we do. Itā€™s really evolved into a solid video player.

FIXES:

  • PS4: Set the application background color to black to avoid blurple!
  • General: Prevent Clock display updates before the display components are ready.
  • General: Only respond to primary button presses (Enter/Select/OK) when a component is focused.

Both issues were brought to our attention by the friendly folks in https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/241276/bug-gui-bug-on-ps3-version-2-10-1-during-playback.

  • PS3 & PS4: Workaround PlayStation video player behavior in order to avoid showing the ... buffering feedback indefinitely when the video player incompletely transitions out of a buffering state.
  • PS3: Workaround slow UI updates during initial video playback which resulted in multiple seconds of audio with no supporting video.

This core app release is primarily to help address slow startup errors on Vizio devices. However, these same increased timeouts will also benefit PlayStation 3 devices.

FIXES:

  • Increased application startup timeout to give slow starting devices / situations more time before displaying a startup failure screen.
  • Startups which complete after we display a startup timeout error message will hide the startup timeout error message.
