Oct 27, 2.4.31
The Plex Pass requirement has been removed from Smart TV devices. The Plex for Smart TVs app is free on all devices. Huge THANKS to our Plex Pass members for testing and providing feedback during the preview period!
Heaps of good for many devices. Our Sony Bravia televisions, VIZIO televisions, and LG NetCast television devices got a big level up with direct play MKV video support. UHD capable VIZIO televisions can now play MKV and MP4 4K videos with the HEVC codec. Our supported media formats documentation will be updated shortly.
Also, music transcoding is now enabled on all devices. Plex Media Server 0.9.12.0 is required. A huge benefit for some users, we hope you enjoy!

December 18, 2.4.41
Weâve got some treats baking for next week. In the meantime this is a TiVo only release. Weâre hoping this lands in time for you all to start the holiday off with plenty of classic shows!
FIXES:
- TiVo Bolt devices running the Fall 2015 update are able to again able to connect with Plex Media Servers. We corrected an issue which made non-secure connections to your Plex Media Server impossible.
- The Plex app uses secure connections by default. Although, secure connections can be disabled by a serverâs âNetwork > Secure Connectionsâ setting. Secure connections can also be prevented by home routers which disable DNS rebinding. The application now correctly falls back to non-secure connections to your Plex Media Server when secure connections are disabled or prevented.
December 22, 2015, 2.5.1
The 2.5.1 release brought music lyrics support to Smart TV and TiVo devices. We held off on posting a message in this thread until our newsletter introduced the feature.
Unfortunately, it also brought a lot connectivity issues - especially for Vizio, Sony, and TiVo users. Itâs a funny thing: no matter what sort of testing we do, these Opera based devices always find ways to deceive us.
After users reported connectivity issues, one colleague was able to reproduce the issue on one device and only against the production release - our testing releases didnât show the same failure. Short of it? Weâll bring music lyrics support back after the holidays and after we understand why many users were affected.
December 23, 2015, rollbacks!
We apologize for the troubles!
If your families are anything like mine, weâve been using Plex to catch up on decades of holiday specials. We hope restoring the older releases will provide you and yours stable media playback for the holidays.
- TiVo devices were rolled back to 2.4.41
- All other Smart TV devices were reverted to 2.4.36
February 17, 2016, 2.5.5
The 2.5.1 release and rollback left a really bad taste in our mouth and a lot of reports of user frustration.
