Like the others - Plex for Windows client Version 1.34.1.2590-74ea7099 keeps crashing, even if nothing is playing and is idle on the home page.
Updated to 1.35.1.2632-c6783c78 and seems to be ok so far…
Same issue, same solution here…
same issue as above… Windows PLEX client crashing after about 30 seconds.
so downloaded and installed the link in some of the reples…
now shows version is 1.35.1.2632-c6783c78.
it hasn’t crashed in about 5 minutes… however… now all the videos i play have a big green box in the bottom half of the window with flashing red ‘marks’ and the video is squished to the top of the window… it’s never had a problem playing any videos before…
Just experienced the same problem (tested three times, with and without a video running), will try with the download mentioned above…
Edit: …which works!
my Plex Server is on my home network, about 4 feet away from my desktop. i rebooted, reinstalled the Plex Windows Client, tried copying a video to the Desktop, and it plays fine in VLC media player. The videos play fine from the Plex Client on the Plex Server, and on my ROKU downstairs. so… what got messed up when i did the Client update on my Desktop? here’s an example of what videos look like now:
thanks for any suggestions… eric
update… in the plex Windows Client… i turned ‘OFF’ the option for ‘use Hardware Decoding’… and that fixed the video playback.
so… what in the update would have an effect on Hardware Decoding ??
had the same issue
Harware decoding on/off no changes crash. did not even need to play anything. just opening the client, waiting about 30 sec. crash.
updated to the newer version listed bellow and the issue has been fixed for me.
Windows 10 or later (64-bit Intel or AMD processors only)

good luck all
just started having the same issue whats going on?
i just uninstalled and went back to an older version i found on my computer, if anybody wants a link to the installer i have, let me know.
There is a new version and you have to manually update. The auto update fails and crashes the Plex client.
im on Version 1.6.3.1009-57cf57c8 now and it works. ive read people have updated manually and they still have issues so unless there is some major need to update immediately from my version, i think im good here until they stabilize it. what do you think?
Same thing here. Reinstalling the windows client fixed the crashing issue.
Same issue. Manually updating fixed it for me.
Why isn’t Plex sending out a notice to everyone about this? I had the same issue, and the manual update fixed it.
nope.
If you’re still on 1.6.3 you’ve missed fixes and improvement from almost 2 years… so we’re apparently not talking about “updating immediately”
I still think you should update at some point… 2 years is ancient in software terms.
I’m having a similar issue. I also have some weird audio “crackling” when opening Plex.
It’s a bummer.
Thanks so much for the link. It solved my problem.
Uninstalling the app, downloading a fresh install from plex’ page and installing it again has solved my problem.
Reinstalling fixed my issue as well!
Reinstalling fixed my issue and turning OFF Hardware Decoding is the only way to play every video without bugs, but this is not new. With these settings the app is overall very good because it uses mpv.
