Since a windows 10 update went thru and got installed, all of the people I know were experiencing crashing using the app and had to move to the plex for HTPC app to be able to play content again.
I know that there was no issue running it before the update went in and now myself and others seem to have no other choice to avoid crashing, to move to the Plex for Home Theater PC App to make playback possible and stop the annoying constant crashes that the current plex for windows app is experiencing.
I also know that there is no update to the current plex for windows other than it was released in november 24th 2020 and I hope we can get that resolved in a future update as soon as possible please.
I can’t help your with your problem but you should change the title to be more specific. You also should include as much information as possible e.g. plex version, system information, logs. Without that the devs can’t do anything for you.

Not sure why we received different updates. I didn’t see anything in the KB4586853 notes that looked problematic.
Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling Plex for Windows, including removing %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex?
The default location is c:\users\username\AppData\Local\Plex. AppData is usually hidden. You may need to enable Hidden Items in Windows Explorer’s View tab.
FYI, if you’re running Plex Media Server on the same system, do not remove %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server. That is the data directory for your server.
Only other thing I can think of is to start backing out the Windows updates until Plex for Windows works again. It would not solve the problem, but it would let the Plex dev team know which update causes the problem and where to focus their efforts.
Yes I have done all the steps you spoke about and still it remains a constant issue with the plex for windows app.
It doesn’t make any difference what computer is being used all of my 5 machines use the latest updates from windows and plex for windows. my server plex is installed on is running fine and all of the other pc’s are having the same problems since that very update.
FordGuy61, I’m not the person who started this thread but I just wanted you thank you for your post. My Plex would only start as a little white box today and now it just started normally after following your post. Instead of just posting what should be done you explained about how to delete the folder in appdata\local and made it super easy and I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate that, and that you helped me.
