What does the new version do?

I actually just installed that and it’s working now.

Same issue for me, and fixed the same way.

Do your log files also end with the below when it crashes?

Sep 23, 2021 23:27:33.801 [15632] ERROR - [UpdateManager] FATAL ERROR: Log: Error handling format string ‘Download %s of %s progress %s of %s bytes (%d%%)’: invalid type specifier

Ditto, here. Was running Plex for Windows V 1.34.1.2590-74ea7099. Each time I launched the app, it would play a selected song for about 30 seconds then crash.

I’ve downloaded (manually) and installed V 1.35.1.2632-c6783c78 and it’s working just fine.

@Voidntt - where do you access the Plex log files? I’m curious

My log files were in C:\Users\[username here]\AppData\Local\Plex\Logs.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Similar entry in my log files as well:

Sep 23, 2021 10:16:21.706 [4380] ERROR - [UpdateManager] FATAL ERROR: Log: Error handling format string ‘Download %s of %s progress %s of %s bytes (%d%%)’: invalid type specifier

Looks like it’s just a bug with 1.34.1’s update manager then.

Thanks for this. I was starting to get irritated. My player was consistently crashing after just 20 seconds of opening the app. I looked up the logs and discovered the same update manager error mentioned. I spent five minutes trying to get into the app to locate a link that would force an update before coming here and discovering this thread.

I installed the new version and i have at least gotten past that first 20 seconds! Hopefully it’s fine now

I have the same “crashing” problem on both a Windows computer and a Mac. Is the suggestion to install a different version?

+1 on this. I was wondering why PMP was not grabbing an updated version. Manual update fixed the issue for me.

Manually installed the latest Windows and Mac desktop client programs and they both seem to now work fine.

Yeah, this looks like an issue with the update downloader in the public version. It’s crashing trying to download the new plex pass update, so the fix is to download it and install it manually. This is the error I’m getting:

Sep 23, 2021 13:15:34.195 [12680] ERROR - [UpdateManager] FATAL ERROR: Log: Error handling format string 'Download %s of %s progress %s of %s bytes (%d%%)': invalid type specifier

Thanks for the link and thanks for the tips here everyone. Same signature and the workaround (the linked installer) saved the day.

Manually installing the latest update fixed my issue as well: Crashing within 30 seconds of start Win 10 device.

Thanks!

Just like the rest, found my way to this forum because the plex app was crashing after 20 seconds
I’m not even watching anything when the app closes. version= 1.34.1.2590-74ea7099

Manually updated like others to 1.35.1.2632-c6783c78 which seems to have fixed the problem.

The application will stay open for more then 20 seconds now.

Thank you!

installed the update, still crashing after 30 sec.

The manual update didn’t fix it for me. I am also missing any dialogue somehow. The music and atmospheric sounds are all still there but no dialogue is played back.
I assumed it would be connected to this issue.

So I updated to this version and it fixed the crashing, but now it will only play 1 file. When I try to play any file after loading one file it will lock up. The app has suddenly become really broken.
