Plex For Windows Native Media Keys Overlay

Server Version#: 1.29.1.6316
Player Version#: 1.56.1.3327-90bc844c

Prior to the latest client build, which notes the addition of support for Native Media Keys, Plex For Windows would respond accordingly to my hardware media keys as expected behaviour.

Since this addition, media controls still behave as expected yet there’s now an overlay popup in the top left corner showing both system volume controls and the now playing track + album art as illustrated here by u/Reeces_Pieces https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/yfnlr9/comment/iu6ofe3/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 .

Is there any way we can change and/or disable this newly added overlay? As I for one find this overlay to be of great annoyance and I see no additional settings within the client to indicate any option to affect this overlay.

I too would love to know a solution for getting rid of the overlay. Most programs include an option within their settings to disable it, but I haven’t found anything within plex to do the same. There is a third party solution that lets you get rid of it completely, though it also gets rid of the volume control bar as well.

In a similar vein, I just want a way to disable media key interaction for Plex.

I use media keys for my music (via Foobar), I want that to always take precedence.

Prior to the 1.56 update Media Keys would always prioritise Plex if a show was paused. Fine, that’s not what I wanted, but I could live with it.

Now, even after I have fully finished watching the show and am back at the main dashboard, media keys still target Plex and the overlay pops up mentioning the program I previously finished watching. So essentially, to regain control of my media keys I have to exit the app. It’s infuriating.

Please please please could we just have a way to completely disable them for plex.

It’s extremely frustrating, especially considering it shows up if you adjust volume while in fullscreen mode. Love having trash take up 1/10th of my screen
