The tldr is that while playing content the interface is quite sluggish. This means that when hovering over the video the UI takes a few second to come up. Exiting and entering full screen takes a few seconds to respond. Clicking on the settings icon while ui is up takes a few seconds for the settings panel to show up. Occasionally when stopping and starting a video takes a few seconds to start and stop. When the internet drops video playback stops despite the server and video files being on the same network.
I have had similar issues for some time and its something they changed in the player.
Couple people here think it had something to do with hardware acceleration being changed in the player but there been no definite answer.
I Guess it only affects a small number of customers so its not high on the list for Plex to investigate and fix or maybe not even on there radar.
My personal solution is to run the last version of the player that didn’t have the problem on my setup. I run Version 1.33.0.2444-a220eae4
I know at some point this older version may not work with the server as they continue to upgrade that. But ill deal with that issue when it happens.
uggg, my backups of my south park dvd’s are some of the worst example. I timed it with my phone, when I hover my mouse over the video it takes 3 seconds for the ui to appear. It takes another 3 seconds after clicking an option for said option to take affect. That really adds up if ur trying to adjust quality settings, as an example.
I’m having the same issue. I’m running on windows 10. I’m on version 1.40.1.2823-6f60f3a7 of pmp for windows. I’m seeing the issue on both my laptop and desktop. The desktop has an Nvidia graphics card, and the laptop has Intel integrated graphics.
Same here. I’m on an i9 workstation with 64GB of memory and a Quadro P4000, and the UI feels like I just detonated a stack of 20 mines in N64 Goldeneye multiplayer. Plus it won’t play 4k video anymore. So there’s that.
Yep, same problem on multiple machines. The UI rendering seems to not have a frame rate cap. it uses 100% of the igpu in my 10th and 11th gen intel machines while just sitting on the home screen.
it even uses 25% of my RTX 3080 Ti … which is ridiculous for a static image of the home screen.
Once the video is playing the overlay seems to have the same effect. its TERRIBLE.
the biggest problem is that when i was using my 15" HP spectre convertible laptop… i got less than an hour video playback before the battery died! this is a 2020 model laptop with a 10th gen intel processor.
Rename C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\plex and C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\PlexMediaPlayer to plex.old and PlexMediaPlayer.old. This got the player to start on the correct screen as opposed to off monitor.
.
I did this to resolve another issue with plex, but I noticed the UI is a bit snapper as a result.
Let me know in the comments if this works for all of you.
I’m running 1.46.1.3056-ab91bdc0 and still have sluggish performance with the interface on Windows. I have sluggish interface whether I’m playing a video or not. The video itself loads and plays fine both local and remote content. It is just the interface which has issues.
