Memory Leak / Lag / Unresponsive Desktop players

Server Version#: 1.25.3.5409
Player Version#: 1.39.1.2763-300bb607

Hi all,

Ever since Plex came out with the “new” Plex Desktop player and ditched the old one, I have had endless issues running plex in the web browser and through the Desktop apps, Windows, Linux and Mac all produce the same terrible results. Due to this, I am still using the old player as it is the only one that works without issues, it just doesn’t have any of the new features…

When running the new player, the UI will start to slow down and lag. If I am playing a video, it will eventually stop responding if I try to pause it. I have to kill the player and open it again in order to continue watching. It just feels like there is a memory leak.

Every update of the app I hope that the issue will go away, but it has not. I am now resorting to putting it up here in order to get some assistance.

Android and iOS apps work perfectly fine and the Desktop app “Plex Media Player version 4.29.2” works without issue or lag.

Let me know if you need any other information.

Yep, same problem on multiple machines. The UI rendering seems to not have a frame rate cap. it uses 100% of the igpu in my 10th and 11th gen intel machines while just sitting on the home screen.

it even uses 25% of my RTX 3080 Ti … which is ridiculous for a static image of the home screen.

Once the video is playing the overlay seems to have the same effect. its TERRIBLE.
