Plex for Windows won't run

Server Version#: 1.19.1.2645
Player Version#: 1.9.0.1188-c009e512-x86_64

Player is the plex pass version, downloaded from the website, not the windows store.

The server is working fine. The player, for Windows, installs fine, but will not run. I also tried running it as administrator, again, it doesn’t run. No window comes up, nothing at all. It doesn’t appear in the Task Manager. What could be going on?

I’ll try a different version of nvidia drivers?

Open the task manager (CTRL+Shift+Esc)
look for any processes simply called plex and shut them down
Then empty out the configuration folder C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Plex

Careful! Don’t empty out the folder named C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server or you will lose all libraries!

No Plex processes were running, Clearing out the Plex folder and reinstalling worked!

Many thanks for your help, was beginning to go crazy thinking I had a virus as it didn’t give any error messages.

Shutting down the leftover processes was just a safeguard measure.
A running plex player process might have prevented clearout of the config folder.

@edified, @neegal did you download 1.9 directly or did an earlier installation update to 1.9?

Sorted, the 1.9 release was pushed to the beta channel early. Oh my. :frowning:

I went to the main download page on the website, and downloaded whatever it gave me, with the “plex pass downloads” enabled. Honest question: Is that “beta”?

Also, I had an earlier installation that had the same symptoms, so I downloaded and then installed the latest. And when the new one still wouldn’t work, that’s when I decided to ask on this forum. Cheers.

Thank you! This worked for me. I couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t running.

Thankyou!!! a very frustrating problem fixed.
Having paid for a plex pass, it’s not a good user experience to have to search the forums just to get the basic program working - hopefully an ongoing fix is in the wings

For me it worked by deleting just the plex.ini file.

many thanks!!
This was driving me mad

Hey, I have the same problem, but sadly the solution doesn’t work for me.

I reinstalled the latest version, run as admin, deleted like suggested the folder, disabled bitdefender and I even analyse in the task manager the waiting chain. It still refuses to work. Anyone has another suggestion?
