Latest plex player desktop

My plex player (not plex media player, which works fine) updated and now wont open. It sits in the taskbar and when move the mouse over i get a small white preview box, with a settings cog in the middle. Tried uninstall and reinstall, have on the server removed from authorised devices see if that makes any difference. It doesnt.

Windows 10
Any ideas?

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3213

Try deleting/renaming the plex.ini file.

  1. Make sure the app is not running.
  2. Rename the plex.ini file in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex (i.e. c:\users\user_name\AppData\Local\Plex) to plex.ini.old.
  3. Launch Plex for Windows.

FYI, AppData is usually hidden by default. In Windows File Explorer, select the View tab at the top, then check the box for Hidden Items in Show/Hide.

If that does not work:

  1. Uninstall the app.
  2. Delete the entire %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex directory
  3. Reboot your PC
  4. Reinstall the app.

If you are running Plex Media Server on the same machine, make sure you do not delete %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server.

thanks, i seem to have got it working. One of my drives external had not re-initiated after a reboot. I have a series of drives set up as a drive pool, while i dont have any critical systems on the drivepool, it had messed up with permissions etc.
Oddly, a bios update caused the drivepool software to deactivate.
Reactivated, drive readded to pool and integrity checked.
Plex now working.

Odd that the plex media server and media player worked.
