Something has happened after the latest Plex for Windows update. Plex will no longer open for me. I try to start the program and just get nothing. I have tried checking the task manager. Plex does not appear at all when trying to start. I have tried all the obvious things - Restart computer, uninstall and reinstall plex, check task manager, even disabling antivirus. But I can’t get the program to start. Any ideas what’s happened? Are other people having this issue since the latest update? Thank you.
I’m having the same issue. The Plex for Windows application takes over 3 minutes, to actually open from when I start it. Once I start the application nothing happens. After waiting 3-5 minutes it finally comes up, but something has broken with the newest version.
I’ve uninstalled it completely and reinstalled with a fresh download of version 1.37.0.2706-5b2cfe50 from the Plex website. Same issue.
It used to launch near instantaniously but now it’s not.
Having the exact same issues, but only on one of my two Windows PCs. On the afflicted one, I’ve uninstalled, installed the latest version (Plex-1.38.0.2734-ec4489fe-x86_64), restarted, made sure all my .NET installations are up to date, but no joy. Very strange.
Any updates on this? Plex media player is still non-functional on my machine, and I haven’t had any success. I installed the latest build (Plex-1.39.0.2753-d48b8c8b-x86_64), but it still won’t start. As this is an issue that started seemingly out of the blue, and new versions of the program didn’t solve the problem, are there any dependencies I should look into? Maybe .NET, or Visual C++? How would I generate a log file, and would that help?
I haven’t got an update unfortunately. Still not working for me at all. Have been completely unable to open Plex for a month now. Have updated to the latest version again - still no change.
You can find the log files at this location for windows 10:
Just tried installing and running again, and looked at my logs. Here’s the last bit of the log, which appears to show the app stuck in some kind of loop, right before I terminated the process:

When I start the app I see nothing. It doesn’t appear in the task-manger. No window opens on screen. I just get no response, however - I do see a new log file created every time I try open Plex. The logs are always the same. I’ve posted mine above.
additionally, interactions in the app are PAINFULLY slow.
Example, play a video, then try to bring up the overlay for options, pause, etc. then wait for it to disappear. definitely a regression somewhere here…
Taking a good minute for me to open plex on windows and has been for the last two or three releases, even with a 16 core / 32 thread CPU. I’m on Windows 11 so I thought that could be the cause, but have looked at the logs and noticed the following:
Dec 14, 2021 13:48:00.649 [38936] WARN - [Controllers] Invalid port given for the inspector server "0". Examples of valid input: "12345" or "192.168.2.14:12345" (with the address of one of this host's network interface).
Dec 14, 2021 13:49:04.216 [38936] INFO - [Controllers/WebController] Launching: file:///C:/Program Files/Plex/Plex/web-client/index.html
Looks like there’s over a minute gap in the logs between this warning and the web client launching so could that be the cause?
@Moussa - When I start the application, nothing happens. In the taskbar, where I should see the Plex logo for the app, I instead see a blank page icon (even when I search for the app in my Start Menu, I see the same icon for the Plex player) and it never starts up.
I use the Plex player on another computer, at home, on the same LAN that my server resides. That player opens up properly in about one second, and it functions perfectly.
Same here. After last update I can’t open it anymore on my Windows PC.
Tried to uninstall and reinstall couple times, no success. (Plex for Windows downloaded from website latest version).
To me when I open the app I see the icon in the taskbar that Plex is open, I also see the process opened in taskbar, but I see no GUI. It’s like it’s been moved out of my display because when I click the icon I see some animation (I’m talking about the animation when you reduce a window to icon, couple of milliseconds) like the window is coming from outside. I thought the problem was that I have a second monitor wired (even though it doesn’t open in that, too), so I tried to disconnect the second one, but I got the same result.
Fortunately I don’t often use Plex from Windows, or this would be a really serious issue.
Well, it is indeed.
Which might indicate that the app’s window is located on the current screen, but outside its borders.
Make sure the player has “focus” (i.e. is the current app. Check this with its task bar icon.)
Tap “Shift” 3 times.
