I’m having major problems with Plex since I made the crucial mistake of updating to the latest version a few days ago. I can’t get Plex to work at all now, I did a complete uninstall and reinstall multiple times and nothing works. Every time I finish the installation it tells me the setup was “Successful” but when I click the button underneath that says ‘Launch’ to activate the program nothing happens! There is no way to load the program, the Plex folder does NOT get created in the Program Files folder where it is supposed to be created and the Start Menu shortcuts do not get created either. When I try clicking on the setup again to repair the install it won’t fix it, the same thing happens saying it was successful with a ‘Launch’ button that doesn’t launch anything.
I’ve tried rebooting my computer in between removing and readding Plex and it still won’t work, right now Plex is completely broken and I have no way to fix this. Someone who works for Plex needs to respond as soon as possible to come up with a fix for this. I’ve been using Plex for years and never have I ever encountered such disastrous results as this when trying to update to a new version. I wish I’d never clicked to update when I received the notification that a new version was available because it has not been with the hours I’ve wasted trying to fix this. No matter what I do I can’t install the program! Everything worked perfectly before I updated, what did you guys do? I don’t know what is going on but someone please help!
Download a fresh copy
Check file properties to see there is a digital signatures tab
Install
If there is no ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server’ then it did not install
Get the MSI log files - they are in %Temp% and names start with ‘Plex Media Server’
Zip and attach

some questions…
where did you download the Plex installer?
what OS / version do you use? → answered in this Post: it’s Windows; which version?
can you access Plex via your Browser right on the machine where you try to install Plex (https://127.0.0.1:32400/web)?
I downloaded the Plex installer from the Plex site itself, yes I can access Plex via my browser on the computer I am trying to install Plex. It just says I have no server because the Plex server won’t install. I’m using Windows 10.
Earlier I installed Plex on a different computer also running Windows 10 and everything worked perfectly so whatever this issue is it is limited the this one particular computer that won’t let it install.

I checked the file properties and there is a digital signatures tab. I installed it but the install won’t complete, when I click the “Launch” button it does not open plex in the taskbar and there is no “Plex/Plex Media Server” folders in my “Program Files (x86)” folder either. Even though there is no folder there and it didn’t install Plex Media Server does in fact show up in my list of programs to uninstall along with all of the others. So it’s installed partially it seems but there is no folder for it, I don’t understand.
I’ve searched my computer for Temp folders and none of them contain any log files or anything with Plex in any of the file names so I have no idea where to get any msi log files from.
Is there any way to completely remove all traces of Plex from my computer and then do a fresh install? I can only assume something is there from previous installations that is corrupting a new installation but I don’t know what exactly. I’ve done a full uninstall from my add/remove programs list and still when I attempt to install again it doesn’t work, this is very perplexing.
The installer always writes to a log file - so you need to find that and other log files created at the time.
You say Temp folders - but there is only one temp folder that would get used and that is the one determined by where environment variable %TEMP% points to
Are you using RDP / Terminal Services ? Windows may then be using Per Session Temp Directory and the temp folders would only be available to the session at the time
Are you using an Admin account to do the install?
The windows install uninstall programs troubleshooter may help removing the previous version if you select troubleshooting uninstall and then try products Plex Media Server and also Stopping Plex

I tried the uninstall programs troubleshooter and “Stopping Plex” was what came up in the list. It said it fixed the issue but when I went to install Plex again the same thing happened, I get the box saying the install was successful but when I press “Launch” it won’t open the program. It just stays on the screen until I press “Close” at the bottom. I was however able to locate the log files in the %TEMP% folder and created a zip of all the ones that were labeled “Plex Media Server” and then attached the zip here as requested. See what you can make of them please because I am at a total loss! Thank you.
what version shows up as installed in control panel / add or remove programs?
and how full is the temp folder - can you right click on it in explorer and see how many folders and files in C:\Users\Emissary35\AppData\Local\Temp

Plex Version 1.12.1.4885 is what shows up in the installed list.
Temp folder has 43 files and 4 folders taking up 8.72 mb
As far as those error logs I have no idea what to make of those or what the errors are or what to correct, desperately need help.
When I select the troubleshooter and uninstall the only Plex reference that shows up is “Stopping Plex” and at this time there are NO Plex products are showing in WIndows Task Manager.
When I clicked Yes - Try Uninstall in the troubleshooter it completes and it DOES say it’s fixed with a checkmark to the right.
When I reboot my computer and run the troubleshooter again it does NOT show any Plex products at all in the list.

That sounds good now
and if you go to control panel / add or remove programs - do you see Plex Media Server listed?
I uninstalled it and rebooted and Plex is no longer listed in add/remove programs.
Downloaded fresh copy of Plex installer from link, it does have a Plex Inc digital signature in the file properties.
Did Run As Admin and installed. Same problem, says the uninstall was successful but when I click “Launch” it won’t open and Plex is NOT in the Program Files (x86) folder but it IS back in add/remove programs, all like before. I have no idea what is wrong and why it won’t just complete the install.
There was no further information in those ‘dd vcredist’ logs that can point to the problem?
Windows IS up to date with all updates and I just installed a different program and it opens just fine. Whatever the issue is it’s with Plex specifically and it’s installation.
