I have used Plex for a couple years now and have absolutely loved it. Recently my secondary hard drive, the one that contained the plex installation, ran into issues and had to be replaced. After replacing the bad hard drive I installed Plex Media Server. The installation went fine, but after I click launch nothing happens. It doesn't show up in task manager or anything, I tried running it numerous times in a couple different ways with no luck. I looked at the troubleshooting section and it suggests resetting my bundles, I looked in Local App Data... but there is no file for "Plex Media Server." I don't understand why it's not launching at all, I tried restarting my computer and reinstalling, both with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
check the windows registry to see if there is an entry for this key
KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server\LocalAppDataPath
If there is, check that the path it contains is valid and permission right for the account you launch Plex media Server in
If there isn't an entry, look in the windows application event for any plex crashes
The problem was that the path wasn't valid in the registry. Thank you so much! I never would of thought of that, everything seems to be working fine now. :D

Excellent News.. Do you remember how it got changed to this invalid path.
I wonder if Plex Media Server is not validating the path that is entered on the Server settings page,
I am having this issue after updating the server today and editing episode names in my TV section. the server just stops streaming and crashes then will not open unless I restart my computer, then it crashes after about 20 minutes. I checked the registry and I dont even see "KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server\LocalAppDataPath" so what do I do? I havent changed HDD's or anything.
I'm also having this issue now.
Just did windows updates on Win7, restarted and Plex hasn't been able to start back up since. Regedit seems to have all the correct directories for everything inside BUT I don't show a
"KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server\LocalAppDataPath".
Either.
Not sure what's going on.
Reinstalled the Server software over the old, still no go.

I don't think this is the same issue. I would try [Resetting System and Framework bundles](https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201119258-Resetting-System-and-Framework-bundles)

Didn't work
Fixed the issue, it was a issue with Plex not being able to find the Metadata correctly. Hard drive that stored it wasn't showing as online.

If Plex Media Server is actually crashing then there would be an entry in the Windows Application Event Log showing the process and type of crash - My Computer / Right Click - Manage / Event Viewer / Windows Logs / Application Event Log. Also there may be dmp file in the Plex Media Server local app data folder 'Crash Reports'
As this is a different issue because you say it actually does start and stream, I suggest you raise a separate topic for it.
See Reporting Issues with Plex Media Server and Plex Media Server Logs and Crash Logs - Plex Media Server
The Topic for this thread says 'Won't Launch' so obviously you are in the wrong topic as you say it crashes after 20 minutes - that is not a crash on launch !!

I just wanted to say thanks! I searched for a good 2 hours and finally found your idea about cleaning the registry. I made my usb drive a static drive letter and it messed up with all of the PMS mapping. Thanks!
I am having a similar problem. Installed it and it worked for 3 weeks and now it won't launch. Uninstalled then installed again and now program won't launch. Went to regedit and didn't see the user permissions that were mentioned and now am at a standstill. Help would be greatly appreciated.

If it is Plex Media Server.exe that exits immediately on launch then using RegEdit locate
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server
and see if there is a key LocalAppDataPath and if one is present see that it does point to a valid path.
The same problem: installed the Plex Media Server, going through all the installations questions (library, maps, etc) with succes. But the server doesn't start. I looked In the registry, but in Plex Media Server there is no such thing as LocalAppDataPath. Under Plex Media Server I find Win Sparkle, also without LocalAppDataPath. Can you tell me what is wrong and what I have to do to enjoy the program.

See advice in post #10 above https://forums.plex.tv/topic/111993-help-plex-media-server-wont-launch/#entry668466
May be it is crashing. The application event log should have a process exception. I presume the task manager process view shows plex media server.exe momentarily then disappears ? Similarly the plex system Tray icon
Anything written to the plex media server.log ?
Thanks. When I click on the exe file, nothing happens. I looked into Windows log files and found the following warnings:
Cannot start C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Plex\PlexMediaServer\PlexMediaServer.exe (PID 2720). Aplication-SID does not match with conductor-SID...
After that I also find C:.......\PlexScriptHost.exe (PID8188) .... etc
and C:......\PlexDlnaServer.exe (PID10476)..... etc
In AppData I find a number of logs, but do not know which one you need.

I have the same problem. Installed Plex and never got it to work no matter what I tried. It is simply not worth more of an effort. Incredible that Plex can not develop a piece of software that installs and works like most others! And my next planned project was to build a dedicated Plex server. I guess I'll rethink that.

Its likely that the issue is with you or your system - as it installs okay for everyone else.
If you give us more information (instead of...it doesn't work!) then we can perhaps help you out
Hi,
I am facing the same issue. I am running Windows 7 (64bit).
I have checked the registry, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ but I cannot find Plex in it.
I have used CCleaner to clean the registry. I'm not sure is that the cause of the problem.
I have tried uninstall and then reinstall the latest version. Still the same.
Please help.
