Plex forces transcode on Dolby Vision?

I own an LG CX, which supports Dolby Vision, and recently started digitalizing 4k discs. So far they habe worked fine and HDR Content from Titles such as Planet Earth II looks fine.
But when I try to play Oldboy (2003) Plex always transcodes the video and removes Dolby Vision, even if I select “Original” quality. Can I turn this off somehow?

There was a message that popped up the first time I started the movie, but I accidentally closed it bevor I could read it and now I don’t know how to see it again.

Edit: Okay, so I downloaded the LG DV demo (https://4kmedia.org/lg-amaze-dolby-vision-uhd-4k-demo/) and added it to my library. This file can direct play Dolby Vision without issues.
I am unsure what the difference could be, since XMedia Recode shows both files as HEVC, 3840x2160, Progressive, YUV 4:2:0 Planar 15bpp, with the only difference being that Oldboy is 24Hz while the demo is 60Hz.

Sure. Just turn off the subtitles.

Oh wow, I would have never expected that to be the source of the problems.

Edit: okay this is highly confusing to me. Now that I know that the subtitles are causing the issue I was able to find this thread which seems to imply that I need to convert the audio to a format witch can be direct played and then chose SRT subtitles, is that correct?

Yes, that seems to work.

AC3 is a supported audio format on LG. It is direct playing in your original screenshot. There isn’t really any difference between direct play and direct stream as far as how it’s being played back. The only reason it says “direct stream” is it cannot be direct play if the other components of the program (the video and subs) are not. You don’t need to convert it to AAC.

The only issue here is the LG cannot natively play image-based subs like PGS. Using SRT is the only change you need.

I’m not sure why, but AC3 only seems to work for stereo tracks (the original screenshot was playing the director’s commentary). If I chose a AC3 5.1 track it transcodes to AAC.

I’ll look into those, thanks
