Plex found the exactly same file twice

Server Version#: 1.15.3.876
Player Version#: 3.83.1

I don’t know the exact reason, but it could happen really often. I can’t imagine any situation when it’s the expected behavior. See attached screenshot. I hope, you can fix it easily. Thank you, Guys.

Rn a scan on your library and it will most likely go away, try analyze as a second step.

Hi Grhiner,
Plex keeps duplicates after “Scan library files”. I’ve just tried “Analyze” on the movie page, but it didn’t help either.

Thanks

This often happens if you have both ‘periodic’ and ‘automatic’ library scans activated.
Or have automatic scans activated, but trigger a second scan manually as well.
Settings - Server - Library

Hi Otto,

I’ve attached a screenshot from my settings.

I think only ‘automatic’ update activated. Am I right? I don’t use manual scan, but the duplication occurs really often.

Any other idea?

Thanks for your help.

Are you downloading directly into a folder which gets “watched” by Plex?

Yes, I’m downloading one of my movies folder.

You should never do that, particularly if you have automatic library updates activated.
Always download into remporary folder which is not included in a Plex library.
Only when the download has finished, rename and prepare the file according to the guidelines and then move the file into a library path.

Thanks for your reply. I like seeding for long time (support the community), so it’ll cause double disk usage. (I just copy files when renaming is required.)

Do you know why Plex doesn’t filter the exactly same file? It seems easy to develop, and I really can’t imagine any situation when this behavior useful.

Thanks again.
