So this just started happening to all new items being added.
Plex is telling me i have 2 of the same show or movie in a folder but you can see that i only have 1 video file in the folder…Why is this?
Anyone? Can anyone help me here?
I saw the same behavior in my Movie library. It’s fixed now but I’m not sure what fixed it. I do have it set to Optimize Library every week. You could manually run that and see if it helps.
Take a look into your library properties.
On the ‘Add Folders’ tab, are there several paths listed? And if yes, do some of them overlap?
I have already done this. All my folders are fine and have not been changed. It just started to happen out of no where.
How are you updating your library?
Are you using the automatic update, or the regularly update or the manual update?

If you are using several of these at the same time, the above issue can arise.

And did you additionally trigger the library update manually with ‘Scan Library Files’, after adding some media recently?
Do you use automated downloader software which might trigger this via the Plex API?

No i have it setup to Add when it is detected. Also i tried removing the folders and re adding it and still the same thing…Plex is picking up 2 files in the folder but there is only one in there.
Could you disable the automatic library scan for a while and do it only manually?
I’d like to compare, how often these doubles appear when using the manual update.
So after a few days i have been doing manual updates and that seems to be working. But looks like anything that was added automatically still has a double add. Any ideas to fix this?
I have unfortunately no idea how to solve this immediately. But your test results provide a very good clue for the developers that there is indeed an issue they have to fix.
Do you have debug logging activated on your server? (Please no Verbose logging)
After another item has been added automatically (and produced the duplicate), wait 5 minutes, then fetch logs please and post them here.
After having “Scan my library” off for a few weeks and me doing it my self the problem has gone away. But i did turn it back on to see if it was gone with that and once it added a TV show and Movie it did it again. I would love to get some more info on this to get this resolved. I want to keep Scan Auto on but hate that it shows that i have 2 items when i only have one.
