Plex GUI slow on LG & Samsung TVs

Yes, I would also like to know when a new app for LG webOS will be released. For the last 3 years I’m having buffering issues, so I can’t watch movies and series on my LG smart TV, it’s pretty much unusable.

Anything to share yet?
Thank you

@sLumpy,

We are still waiting to see an updated official statement from Plex regarding the future of the Smart TV app.

Thank you.

Guys… calm down. They are actively working on this at the moment, and there will be more info in the future and this is their number one priority.

Adding a comment to make sure these threads stay at the top and don’t close after no comments for three months. It is shameful that we can’t get any updates from Plex.

Adding my voice here, trying to evangelize Plex in my household as we cut back on streamers and the LG app is just way too slow. I tried changing servers from my NAS to a dedicated machine and the interface is plenty fast on android and PC browsers but the LG app is still barely usable.

I can’t see this ever improving. It only affects certain LG models in my house. If they could fix it it would’ve been done by now.

I gave up and bought a Shield. It is so much slicker for most apps, not just Plex. I hate having an external box but needs must.

I am also running Jellyfin alongside Plex, which works very well on all devices but doesn’t have an LG app (afaik).

Plex Media Server started as a project in 2008 and the first public release was in 2010.

When I search on the Internet for comments, I see that the first 10 years the project was very successful and the development team followed the users.

Then, something happens. . .

My understanding here is that today the Plex development team is greedy and does not care much about the customers experience.

My TV had an update for WebOS today to WebOS 25 / 10.2.1-5202 and plex is now working much better. I can scroll through my movie collection without it locking up.

I may have to apologize to the Plex team as this was solved with an OS update not a Plex one.

@chadsfake, I am happy for your positive Plex experiance.

On my LG TVs, I have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney + and Plex. The first three are working very fast while searching through the media content. Unfortunately, the Plex application is rediculasly slow.

I remember, on the same LG TVs years ago the Plex application running very, very fast. Then the development team created a “new UI” and implemented integrated 3rd party streamin services. As a result, the Plex application started lagging when searching/loading media content. Just to clarify… I do not have any problem when I play a video through the LG Plex.application. All problems I have on all my LG TVs are with the navigation through the Plex app menus until I select the video.

I do not blame the WebOS on my LG TVs because all other video streaming services (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney +) are wiorking just fine. It all comes to the Plex developers skils to optimize the LG Plex application to meet the hardware capabilities.

Why Netflix, Amazon and Disney can make nice/fast LG apps and the Plex team does not want to even talk about it?

It becomes obvious that this is a management decision that does not want to invest in optimizing the app for LG & Samsung. When they introduced the “new UI” they didn’t test the new version well enough and now they let us live with a semi-finished product. It’s really a shame and a big minus for Plex image as a name that had a great reputation. Easy for those of us who have paid a lifetime subscription, I don’t understand how they are not worried that with such a bad application they will not get new users who come through LG and Samsung TVs. I myself came just like that - because I was looking for a practical DLNA software that works on my TV.

Hello, I had the same problem on my Samsung QE65Q9F (2018).

I’ve just changed it for a Samsung 83S95F, and I don’t have any problem anymore!!

The plex app on this tizen OS is working fast and perfectly! So……forget the old apps working on old tizen OS…

@wrathchild_34, I do not know the main reason for your hardware upgrade and I hope you did not do it just because of the PLEX app.

My LG TVs are also from 2018 (55SK8000PUA and 65SK8000PUA) and as I did mention in my previous posts, only the PLEX application is lagging. I do not have any problems with the Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney +. It does not make any sense for me to invest money if the problem is with the PLEX app. For example, next year the PLEX developers can decide to make the application to consume more resouces and as a result only TVs from 2026+ to be able to handle the requirements. I disagree with the idea PLEX to tell me that my TV is not good anymore.

Unfortunately, you are right. The current PLEX development team does not know how to optimaze the LG PLEX app. They need a “fresh blood”…

I switched to a larger screen and because of a hardware issue with the HDMI ports… and what a pleasant surprise, the Plex app works perfectly on this Tizen OS! Yes, indeed, on my 2018 Samsung, everything worked flawlessly (Netflix…) EXCEPT Plex…
