I gave up and bought a 2nd hand Shield. Soeed difference in the menus is night and day but I don’t like not using the native TV app for Plex. Adds complexity for the family.
I know my LG is getting on a bit (2018) but the playback is still great in the Plex TV app, only the menus are sluggish.
NowTV are dropping support for this TV this month so the Shield will serve a double purpose, just need to get the audio working to my preference.
My 2nd LG TV is a little newer (2021) and works pretty well with Plex to be fair.
I still use the Plex app on LG TV and playback works fine, but the menus are so slow it’s a joke. And the I go to my super old Samsung TV with old version of the app and it works decently fast. So, it’s just a neglect from the Plex team.
I wonder if there is any news on the new app that Plex has developed? When will it be available for all platforms? I see that it’s now available on Android, iOS and tvOS.
Yesterday I used the Plex app on my LG smart TV, I was watching the V series, and it seems like the app has gotten even slower, what the hell? I also still get buffering with both video and audio playback.
But to clarify, so you’re not streaming movies from the Plex smart TV app? From what I understood, if you use Plex locally there are no problems.
This problem is strictly with smart TV apps from Samsung and LG. It’s just a badly designed app, such a bummer because Plex has got certain content that I can’t find elsewhere.
I just switched over from Jellyfin, Samsung S92C OLED, it’s INCREDIBLY slow in the gui compared to every other app, including Jellyfin which is lightning fast and lightweight.
Disappointing would be an understatement after just paying £100 for Plex Pass for the “premier” media server in compatibility.
I just made the Samsung app rapid by choosing high contrast OLED mode and enable “Reduce motion” so it disables all the useless animations and transitions.
After all this time has passed, I can’t see any other conclusion than that the information from the beginning of this thread was false or maybe something in the process has gone in a disastrous direction.
What would be correct and professional is for Plex to tell its users the truth. For example: “We have stopped the development of LG and Samsung applications” if you want a quality experience, you have to buy a separate box for which we are actively developing an application.
That would certainly be very disappointing, especially for those of us who bought the lifetime pass, but at least we would know what to expect and whether it makes sense to invest money in an additional external device.
In my case, it’s not even a matter of money, it’s a matter of technological elegance. It seems arrogant and wasteful to ask users to buy separate hardware for something that a smart-TV can do just fine on its own - and which I know worked great until Plex decided to release a new “fancy” version that, I admit, looks nicer, but is so slow it’s embarrassing.
on this page the last Smart TV update is from over two (2) years ago.
Is it possible PLEX to release an official statement on the expected optimization of the Smatr TV app? We (the customers) have a lot of problems with the current PLEX Smart TV app.
I believe that it is not fair to users and those who have paid a lifetime subscription, that we cannot get clear communication about what is happening. Sometimes it is better to clearly and openly state the state of affairs, even if it is bad, than to have an “elephant in the room”.
