Plex hasn't found a single video?

I have literally hundreds of videos and Plex hasn’t found a single one. I don’t even have the video option on my page. Do they have to be in a specific folder? I noticed it wouldn’t find music until I put it in my music folder. So I tried putting a mkv into my video folder simply named name.mkv and it still didn’t show up.

It sounds like you need to do some work to get things in a way Plex can understand them. Plex is only going to look for video files where you tell it to. Once it has located these files Plex is only going to match things that are named in a way the server recognizes.

I would recommend looking at the media preparation guide to get an idea of what Plex is expecting to see.(https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/categories/200028098-Media-Preparation)

Okay, so how do I tell it where to look for them? And also, why won’t it recognize something named as simple as name.mkv? It’s by the guidelines.

Named exactly to spec, in a folder exactly to spec. No idea what’s going wrong. I don’t even have a folder named “video” on my Plex server after scanning.

For a TV show episode that is missing the season and episode number.
For a movie it is missing a year.
The only library it will work in is a home video library.

Until you have added the folder holding your video file to a movie library, Plex will have no idea it even exists. Plex only scans for a library specifically where you tell it, it does not search your computer for the media.

That support article explains how to create a library and details the steps of adding folders.

Really in 75% of the cases people always tell that they followed the naming convention and in fact they did everything but that…

My first post is a request for a full set of log files. That reduces those 48 page ‘support threads’ where we find out on page 48 what the problem is.
