Plex Home for Remote Users?

I assume the answer to this question is no but I want confirmation. Is there anyway to setup a Plex Home like setup for remote users? I’m trying to find a way to make it easy for my sister and brother in law to easily switch between accounts on their remote TV.

I don’t not want to create my own Plex users for them as they would have to login to Plex with my account first.

You can add regular accounts to Plex Home ( they don’t have to be managed users) . The user picker will show everyone including them however as Plex Home is definitely not designed for folks not living with you in your home

My girlfriend and I lived in separate dwellings, and this worked incredibly well for us.

“You” cannot set them up in their own “home” apart from yours. If you add them to yours, your profile will be among the selectable profiles.

I assume you mean you want them to have their own user selection that will have no effect or bearing on your user experience? They’d have to set up their own Plex server/account for that… Probably the only option. They could still access your stuff that way too. This is where things get sticky and confusing though.

What exactly worked well for you?

Huh?

Okay, here is a possible method that might work. I haven’t tried it so I’m not sure this will work BUT…
To make this work your sister and/or brother in law must have a PlexPass.

You share your libraries the old-fashion way with both of them. Then, one of them creates a PlexHome and adds the other. This way they can benefit from fast user switching and you don’t have to worry about your account info being needed or used.

Like @AmazingRando24 stated. If you add them to your PlexHome then your profile will be among the selectable profiles. Password PIN or not, this requires a level of trust on your part.

Standard practice for me when I invite family and friends to watch my stuff is to have them create their own Plex account. I then send them an invitation, and they log in under their own IDs to watch my stuff. The girlfriend did the same. For her account, I added it to my Plex Home.

This gave the advantage of being able to share all Plex Pass features with her, and gave us the selectable profile login screen. That was nice, because we didn’t have to fiddle with logging in and out of the app (all apps/clients were logged in under my account which gave us the select screen), and we could keep our watch histories different. I’m not sure if she gets the profile selection if she logs in under her own account… We never worried about it.

There is a HUGE trust factor there though, as I have the ability to delete files enabled on my side, and I hadn’t set (the easily hackable for anyone truly bored) PIN on my login.
