Plex Home screen UX/UI inconsistencies

The inconsistency of the Plex Home screen across different platforms drives me crazy. I run two servers, one in a datacenter and one at home. This is done so I don’t hit my home ISP’s bandwidth cap since little kids like to watch the same thing over and over again.

On the Plex web client the home screen will show Continue Watching - server_owner_name (server_hostname) if I allow Plex to automatically setup the home screen. This is what I want, but I don’t like that the server’s 2 continue watching is shoved down bellow “On Deck”, “Recently add TV” "Recently added movies from server 1 so I change it to manually manage. This allows me to arrange the sections the way I want it. This is also great, but when I do this I loose Continue Watching - server_owner_name (server_hostname) and the web client only shows Continue Watching - server_owner_name.

To make things worse this isn’t the case for all players. Some of the players only show Continue Watching - server_owner_name while others show Continue Watching - server_owner_name (server_hostname).

Since my goal is to save home bandwidth, I need to know which server is serving the content. It would be really helpful if:

  1. The UX was consistent in areas it can be
  2. All players showed Section_Heading (ie. continue watching, on deck, etc.) - server_owner_name (server_hostname) in both automatic and manual modes

Plex-web
Auto: Continue Watching - server_owner_name (server_hostname)
Manual: Continue Watching - server_owner_name

Plex Mac desktop
Auto: Continue Watching - server_owner_name
Manual: Continue Watching - server_owner_name

Plex Windows desktop
Auto: Continue Watching - server_owner_name
Manual: Continue Watching - server_owner_name

Plex Roku client:
Auto: Continue Watching - server_owner_name
Manual: Continue Watching - server_owner_name

Plex Apple client:
Auto: Continue Watching - server_owner_name
Manual: Continue Watching - server_owner_name

Plex Google TV (Nvidia Shield) client
Auto: Continue Watching server_hostname
Manual: Continue Watching server_hostname

Lastly, I think the Google TV Plex app does this the best with just Continue Watching server_hostname. Continue Watching - server_owner_name (server_hostname) might be better for users who have friends they share with and use the same server_hostname.

I couldn’t agree more on the inconsistencies across various platforms. It’s been happening for way too long and drives me just as nuts. I can’t seem to find the “continue watching” or “on deck” options on Roku or my Android. The " continue watching" option however did show up for some movie content offered by Plex. But not for my own content
