Plex Home

@Devs

Is there a way to allow Home Users other than the King Admin user to access Channels?

Baa,

Within PlexConnect I have logged in and select my admin account as the PlexHome user. My set is AppleTV -> PlexConnect (Fedora in VirtualBox) -> PMS (Fedora Server) / PMS (macmini). Basic logging below. Will need to re-configure PlexHome and enable detailed logging tomorrow and get back

...

Hope this is some help?

Thanks

Depends on your channels... :-D

No, honestly, this is something you got to discuss in the PMS section. PMS limits access, we can't change that. Might need a new "feature request" like "PlexHome: enable channels rated Kids-friendly for managed users...". Maybe there is a setting already, I have not idea.

Edit: Checked with the Plex guys - Schuyler confirmed that it's currently not possible to share channels. Don't know yet if it's on their roadmap...

Thanks Baa for the information and the follow-up.

hey just wanted to share my experience with the latest commit as I was having the same problem as most people here, I could log in and switch users, half the time my library wouldn’t come up or when it did I would get 5 or 10 mins into a movie and it would stop and say that it was unavailable when checking the logs, it would tell me that it was unauthorised or the server was unavailable, so eventually I decided I would check everything for updates, the apple tv was the only thing that had an update so after updating everything has been working fine, everytime I switch user the correct libraries (or shared libraries) appear as they should and media now plays from start to finish without any problem…

hope this helps

thanks and keep up the great work

i have no problem since the last commit..for some reason it seam that some have problems some don't

In case anybody has the same problem as me = libraries not coming up: I had to log-off the PMS from plex.tv / MyPlex in the PMS settings. Since then it is working as advertised / intended.

Same issue here, just showed up after activated Home PIN but haven't set any users on PMS

In my case, the network doesn’t allow connections from outside which seem to interfere with PMS / Plexconnect getting a token. Without token no log in into PMS.

But logging off from plex.tv solves the problem with Plexconnect.

The only annoying thing is that e.g. the Plex Sync function or remote access doesn’t work when logged off [emoji25]

FYI: in this thread (https://forums.plex.tv/topic/146838-no-internet-no-plex/) users state that they cannot access PMS when no internet is available (because the user cannot authenticated by/through plex.tv).

So, for anybody having difficulties with plexconnect and Plex Home, this could be an issue.

@Baa

this post might be interesting: https://forums.plex.tv/topic/146838-no-internet-no-plex/page-2#entry869406

As I read it, in an offline scenario, clients can access PMS using the cached user info.

I guess Plexconnect is not caching the user info? Could this help to resolve a few of the reported issues?

You are right... we are currently not caching anything.

What do you think we should cache? The complete PMS setup with tokens and stuff? Per user? Per aTV? What happens when you change the myplex user, or the home user?

I'm sorry if my earlier post sounded like I was complaining -> I thought this info might be useful and I did not intend to criticize at all.

In terms of "what to cache": being a humble user with limited linux and no dev skills who is happy he got Plexconnect running, I'm not really qualified to answer this. My unqualified, stupid answer would be to 'copy PHT's behaviour'.

In the linked post dev ljunkie says that they cache the last user that was logged in. That should be sufficient for most setups unless a family 'really' uses the Plex Home feature on the ATV and switches between mum, dad and the 3 kids all the time... But I guess in this scenario they have proper internet

But what makes me wonder about all of this is that e.g. (PHT's) Plex Home works flawless when the PMS is signed into plex.tv. Ergo, it should get a connection and tokens (how could I confirm that technically?) but Plexconnect doesn't seem to be able to get the tokens in the same scenario (from PMS?). But offline it weirdly works and Plexconnect gets a token from somewhere. This might be the real issue. Using caching to use Plexconnect in an online(!) scenario seems just wrong :)

[ for the protocol/recap: my internet connection is dodgy & I e.g. cannot use P2P connections -> there might well be a problem there and I don't want to wrongfully point at Plexconnect if this is my problem! ]

EDIT: when connecting to PMS, new devices are always asked to register themselves with PMS (or plex.tv?) -> my ATV/Plexconnect show up in the list of devices but it says it was last connected 25 days ago although I use it every day. Could that have anything to do with the above issue?

I'm having the same issue. As long as my PMS is logged into my Plex account, I can't access my library through Plexconnect.

00:52:30 PlexAPI: No Response from Plex Media Server

00:52:30 PlexAPI: We failed to reach a server. Reason: Unauthorized

The second I logged out with my server, my library showed up.

I haven't tried it without Plex Home because I rely on it pretty heavily with 8 kids on my other devices, but I only started having this problem with my aTV2 today when I finally updated to a version of Plexconnect that supports Plex Home.  Has there been any progress toward getting this fixed that anyone knows of?

Since I changed my internet provider and PMS can get a proper connection to Plex.tv, the problem is solved - most of the time. At least for the PMS running on the NAS on which also PlexConnect runs.

The Win7 PMS which I only occasionally use, I sometimes have to log off from plex.tv on PMS to get access to its library. You can log into plex.tv on PMS again to enjoy the PlexPass features, etc and the connection stays but without log off it doesn’t show in library. So, try that.

I don’t know what it makes it work or break. To me it seems random when it works and when not. But - and this is the good news - 80% of the time it does work.

My best guess is that it has something to do with the log in tokens and depends on when what was (re)started.
