Plex HTPC feedback

I can’t get it to go fullscreen? I tried every combination of keyboard shortcuts mentioned in this thread and of course the one in the settings.

Has anyone tested to see if this player passes bit perfect audio with exclusive mode selected? I usually use WASAPI in Kodi but curious about this audio implementation.

I don’t think true full screen has been implemented as you might expect yet…

On Windows the application bar and status bar are still present as seen here and on Mac the menu bar is present.

No fullscreen is an immediate deal breaker. Why have an option in the settings then? Lame!

I cannot comment on the Windows version… on macOS 11, setting Settings > General > Visibility to Full Screen works perfectly, no menu bars here.

There is absolutely fullscreen.

Make sure your settings is set to fullscreen.

And I believe the “\” key will toggle between a title bar and true fullscreen.

@tom80H - The question about Full Screen has come up a good few times now, and it kinda makes me wonder…

Why does the app not actually default to Full Screen outta the box?

Why make users go into the settings to set it?

It’s a little bizarre, and does nothing but generate more queries.

As I posted here both the application bar and the status bar are shown, as well as a 5 pixel gap on the left and right, when in full screen :frowning:

Cheers - That’s useful as I wasn’t aware of that.

Whilst the shortcut works, I’m seeing exactly the same behaviour as changing the setting manually - with the added confusion that it doesn’t update the value on the settings page.

Odd that it appears to be working for some but not others.

I’m guessing some of us are seeing some bizarre bugs in these early releases. On a positive note, it’s good that Plex are updating the HTPC version though

I will try reinstalling and see if the fullscreen bug gets fixed.

Make sure you also delete the Appdata folder for Plex HTPC, usually…

%LocalAppData%\Plex HTPC

Fair question… as for the answer I can only guess.
My take is this is mostly to avoid the exact same question from users who would get stuck if the app opened in full-screen with no obvious buttons to minimize/exit it. Mac users might still think of quitting the app using +Q… not sure many Windows users will think of exiting an app w/ Alt+F4. So maybe it’s Plex’ way of picking the “lesser evil”

Perhaps!

I guess if it was intuitive enough on first run, then maybe you could account for the best of both worlds.

For example, on first run, after you have gone through the initial “pick your server” customization processes, a popup message might be be useful to advise the user “Hey, you can enter Full Screen by…”

I actually thought I was completely dumb.
On the (admittedly occasional) visit to Plex for HTPC it took 4 days to figure out “Full Screen” mode.

It’s hardly intuitive.

Indeed, it’s really not intuitive.

The only reason I didn’t have a problem is because I ALWAYS go into settings in a piece of software before actually using it.

But I do think it could do with some more work, although I would also agree it’s not overly pressing in comparison to other things that need to be done.

This is part of the one last remaining problems I have with Plex. (Generally I’m in a good place.)

It really does seem there is no middle ground in how Plex.inc sees it’s users.

I read earlier that the same decade old default remote streaming sweet spot is what it is because it will lead to issues and confusion if it’s altered (for less clued up users.)

When in comes to beta releases it seems the approach is “If you can’t figure it out for yourself without having your hand held then perhaps don’t use a beta/Prerelease version.”

In this particular instance I clearly fall into the latter.

It was a similar argument with the Recommended / Library tabs… Many users were of the opinion that the Library tab should be the default out of the box… That never got changed!

I ended up just deleting the app data folder and fullscreen now works. I hadn’t opened Plex HTPC in a long time so I figured it would update on its own after reading the comments here.

Yeah I get that.
Personally it was something I learned to overcome once I realised the “last view”. would always be the “next view.”

But that’s just my point. Plex occasionally treat us as if we are so smart that we can read their minds as to how the latest changes impacts various users (with their different setups.) or how they intend us to do things according to their vision.

For me it wasn’t about how to get fullscreen to work, it just didn’t work when I first installed it. I have no preference about the defult after install, only that it works!

Again this is the point.
Not just related to this exact thread , but there are at least 3 posts in the last 24 hours from Staff/Ninja’s that make it pretty much obvious that it’s not just simply the user base who aren’t as up to date as the various client/server dev’s.
That said, Im happier with Plex than I have been for years generally… I get where they are going and why.

It would be great though if the latest and greatest changes were better explained before the event…. or if anyone below dev level had any more idea than us as to what those changes involved before those changes actually hit main release.
