I am not having that issue although I have seen it before. Does it happen in both full screen and windowed?
Just tried and can confirm it is both.
Mine takes an age to load. Even on my main pc, strangely on a old system I have with a 1st gen 860 i7 it’s lightning.
That is what I like about Plex HTPC, it is lightning fast and shuts down quick. Kodi is hit or miss on its shutdown speed.
It’s lightning fast once started. Loads all posters instantly. But the actual starting of the app is very slow. Just timed it, from pressing the “Green button” which is the same as double click. It’s 30 seconds till I am Plex HTPC.
My wee HTPC is running:
Win10 pro
i5-8500T @2.10GHz
8GB
120GB SSD (Can’t mind what it is)
It’s runs Emby Theatre instantly and plays all 1080 stuff without even a sniff of a problem as it’s all direct play from the server. I have no 4k content, not even a 4k TV lol. So it’s enough for now.
I don’t mind the time it takes Plex HTPC to start. Once it’s running it doesn’t get closed unless there is an issue. The other Plex apps on it are very quick to start. So have put it down to either my HTPC is too old and slow to handle it or it’s still a work in progress and not been fully optimised yet… most likely the first option haha
P.S Watched resources while it’s starting and nothing is over 50%. So could be 2nd option after all. Weird that my old file server with the 1st gen i7 has no starting speed issues.
I have the keyboard shortcut Windows key + the number that the shortcut resides on the taskbar programed to a button on the Harmony hub remote.
If I push it in fullscreen the taskbar shows, push it again it goes back to fullscreen. In windowed mode it goes back an forth between minimize and windowed, all expected behavior.
10th generation intel laptop. 4 seconds to show splash screen and another 10 seconds to reach Plex home screen.
My new NUC i7 takes 15 seconds to show the home screen, otherwise very fast.
Because all my other TVs are running on Roku, I wanted to use the same remote to control the HTPC. So I run EventGhost and translate a Roku remote’s blasts into keyboard actions on the pc. Family loves the consistent interface.
I used eventghost for years before I picked up the Hub and until I realized the Hub did Bluetooth on a PC so well. Was able to ditch the USB-Uirt and eventghost.
Recording and schedules will be coming soon in an update. It is being worked on for HTPC and our TV platforms.
HI @deactivated I really appreciate your help on this. I was able to take what you mentioned in your posts and get the remote working. Much appreciated!
What device did you end up inputting in the Harmony app for Kodi?
just to share we use FLIRC usb for our Harmony remote or app to control our HTPC, i am sure there are many different options, but this one works well for our setup.
That is great but for anyone without a FLIRC usb or built-in bluetooth, I would certainly recommend getting a usb bluetooth dongle to use with the hub rather than the more expensive FLIRC. Bluetooth seems more solid compared to IR having used both.
Just curious, so are you referencing the connection from the harmony to the pc, for the preference of the Bluetooth dongle over the Flirc for media playback commands, like play-pause, audio track, chroma, gamma, brightness, etc?
Most people here calibrate their TV and don’t fiddle with brightness, chroma, gamma daily on the fly. For changes like that I would use the original TV remote. Are you using your PC to change video picture settings, rather than the TV?
Harmony hub goes bluetooth to PC. It acts like a bluetooth keyboard so any keyboard shortcut can be programed to any button when operating a PC. Plex is designed to be used with a keyboard so they work seamlessly over bluetooth.
ok, make sense! so just preference of harmony to pc via bluetooth vs flirc.
No we don’t change any the TV’s native settings, calibrated as well. but we do adjust per movie or tv show the scaling, chroma, gamma etc. based on the media. as well as audio tacks, subs, repeat, fps, aspect ratio (for Imax), and other common task.
the video rendered is set up with automation based on several criteria, but yes we do sometimes per movie make minor adjustments if needed. for example say the darkness of Pirates of the Caribbean compared to brightness of maybe Bumblebee, i would adjust the video render for my preference of video quality.
the Plex app is ok for keyboard response, i don’t see any lag via flirc, but not able to say myself if bluetooth is any faster.
Does anyone have a solution for the combination MacOS Big Sur, latest version of Plex for HTPC, FLIRC and a Harmony remote control (no hub, just IR), where if you fire up Plex for HTPC, if you click on the Play button (media keys) of the remote, Apple Music fires up instead of Plex playing a video. It properly works after you start a video in Plex with the OK button and try to watch something else without closing Plex. Would be nice if Plex is able to control the media buttons without Apple Music butting in.
Where AHK = https://www.autohotkey.com/? … very interested in this as I have one of these:

That has worked great and would love to keep using if I can figure out the button remappings…
Any links/hints/files you can share or point me to?
Thanks sLumpy - and do we have a target release cycle for those updated features (understanding things change, etc…)? Just trying to understand if this is likely a 30-90 window or a 6+ month window or …?
Hey, I’ve a friend round the now. Will come on later once he leaves and explain what I’ve done and how.
Do you sleep your HTPC or always on?
